What do you call your Smoker?
TWOCAN - Our grill is built out of ... two cans
How was your smoker built?
My son and I took two 55 gallon barrels and welded them together, end to end. Side doors/vents were cut out and doors were cut out from the front. My dad built the frame and legs that support the grill. Smoke stacks were added to help drag the smoke across the food.
What kind of Capacity does it have?
The grill will hold ( per side )45 - 45 hamburgers, 30 chicken leg quarters, 150 hot dogs, a lot of boston butts, 25 rib eye steaks. It will hold a lot of food
Won any Competitions? When and Where?
We have competed in a steak grill off and came in 4th place out of 13 teams. We were featured in the local newspaper the following day.
What Style of Smoker is it?
Our grill was built on the reverse air flow concept. When it is set up as a grill the bulk of the charcoal is at one end and the smoke/heat is drawn thought the unit and out the opposite side. When the unit is set up as a smoker the middle plate that separates the two sides is removed and the fuel is on one end while the food is at the other and once again the smoke/heat is drawn across the food and out the side.
What kind of Fuel does it run on?
Charcoal is the main fuel that we use on our grill but when it is transformed into a smoker, wood can also be used. Charcoal gives a much taster flavor when cooking slow. When smoking our food, we soak the wood for 15 minutes or a little longer and then burn it at a low temperature to get the smokey flavor in our meat.
Tips and Tricks
- Grilling is an art, no doubt of that, and getting the food right is a matter of practice and technique. So, if you are having trouble getting your grilled foods to turn out just right, follow these grilling tips and tricks to ensure the best flavor for your grilled foods:
- Charcoal readily absorbs and holds moisture, so store it in a dry place.
- 2- Soak wooden skewers and toothpicks in water for at least 20 minutes before using them on a hot grill. The absorbed water will prevent the wood from burning.
- 3.-The easiest way to clean a soiled grill is to scrub it with a stiff, wire brush
