Decent quality, good customer serviceApril 22, 2009 By jredders
I actually have the 2007 -U401 model. When I bought the grill unassembled, the warming rack was bent, but a quick call to customer service (US based in Texas, or they've hired great phone actors) replaced it for free. We moved last winter and the temperature gague got broken somewhere along the way. I also checked and, sure enough, my grease tray is rusted through like everyone elses. Ordered replacements today (4/22/09) and they only charged me $8 for shipping. Was purchased on 3/26/07, so I'm past 2 years. As far as grilling performance, it works just fine. Heats up quickly and is easy to control the temp. I oil my grill religiously each time I cook on it and so far have no problems with the porcelain cracking. The biggest disappointment is that the rotisserie burner is hard to keep lit if there's anything more than a light breeze. Same thing goes for the side burner. Overall, not a bad grill, but definitely not an award winnner and from what I've read the 2008 model is a step down. Now I just have to figure out a way to keep the grease tray from rusting through again.

I Have the same problemMarch 10, 2009 By donnad62
I just bought this Blue Ember grill last spring 2008 at Home Depot in Canada and paid 600.00 . The bottome grease tray rotted out in September and I need another one. I can't believe the quality or lack of with this bbq and would so like my money back so I can buy a great family grill. Any advice? Donna

2 years into it and its okMarch 07, 2009 By baypags
the grill is pretty decent - for the price, i can't complain. the bottle opener is great and good for parties, burner does the job too. the plug electrical outlet works well and is convenient - also helps with parties - plugging a blender in, for example, BUT, my only real problem is the grease tray underneath - it is completely rusted out before 2 years of ownership. that is disappointing. making the issue worse is that i can't find the grease tray on-line to buy it.

Blue Ember FG50069-U401 is the pits!!November 21, 2008 By flapper48
Undoubtedly, the worst grill I have ever owned!! Yes, that's correct. Bought in June '07 at local Home Depot ~ $450.00. Was rated very high by Consumer Reports according to my wife...... was a bit sceptical after owning a (1) Ducane grill w rotisserie for 23 years. Now they knew how to make grills!!! And yes, I did spend money to rebuild the Ducane Grill.......2 times in 23 years..~$300 Blue Ember is simply a ""gas"" grill, no lava rocks etc....so your cooking via direct natural gas flame, not by radiant heat from lava rocks heated by gas flame. Grease is a big deal with this Blue Ember grill because some drips down onto the burner grease cover plates by design, but most grease drips and is caught by a large thin guage, cheaply fitted, conical shaped capture tray w/ grease cup. Our shaped grease tray and cup rotted out completely in 12 months...nice huh. Rotisserie burner no longer will stay lit after 1-2 seconds, chrome front door handles and bottle opener are rusting out, grill grates porcelain ceramic covering is cracking off like mad w/ just using typical bbq brass brush/scraper......all this in less than 15-16 months!! NOT GOOD!! I have been in contact w/ Fiesta/Blue Ember Customer Service and they indicate all claims are under 2 yr warranty.....OK, but then what? after 24 months?? Look at a Ducane.....even though they were acquired by Weber-Stephens, who has rumored to have lowered Ducane quality in parts and price point. Good Luck!

Good grill A+October 18, 2008 By surfmaster911
I purchased this at a Home Depot for $200. The original price was $450 It was marked down because of a dent on the lid and was missing the transformer for the lights. I call the MFG and they promptly sent me the parts, FREE.It came with the rotisorie and works great too. This grill gooks awesome. It gets over 600f in a matter of minutes. Cooks good at very low heat too.The smoker box works great. Burners light first time, every time. The only thing after a few months of use 4-5 times a week, the coating on the grates chipped off a little. I recommend this grill, but not at the $450 price. Value to me would be about $275, being if you shop around, you can usually find a $500 grill marked down at the end of the season or bargin with the help at Home depot and find one with a dent, missing wheel, etc.The dent gives it character and replacement wheels are only $3.99 in the hardware section.
