Turkey Burgers with Cucumber Relish

By , About.com Guide

A tasty low-fat turkey burger. You can substitute the full fat sour cream for a healthier alternative like yogurt or low fat sour cream.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • Burgers:
  • 1 1/4 pounds ground turkey or chicken
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 4 green onions (upper portion only), minced
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 2 tablespoons fresh basil, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
  • Relish:
  • 1 1/2 cups cucumber, coarsely grated
  • 1 tablespoon dill, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon jalapeño, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup olive oil (or more if needed)

Preparation:

To make burgers, mix all burger ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Shape mixture into 8 equal sized balls. Place onto a baking sheet and press each one into a 3/4 inch thick patty. Cover burgers with plastic wrap and place in refrigerator.

To prepare relish, place cucumber in sieve or cheese cloth, and squeeze out excess fluid. Combine cucumber with relish ingredients in a medium mixing bowl. Cover with plastic wrap and place in the refrigerator.

Preheat grill. Brush patties on each side with olive oil. Grill over direct medium heat for 5-7 minutes. Turn once. Serve with relish over top.
