Turkey with Cranberry Glaze

User Rating 4 Star Rating (1 Review)

Grilling is the perfect way to get a moist and tender turkey. The cranberry glaze will add a nice hint of sweetness to the dish.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours, 30 minutes

Total Time: 4 hours, 45 minutes

Yield: Serves 10 to 12

  • 1 turkey, 12-14 pounds
  • 1 cup cranberry sauce
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1/4 cup dry red wine
  • 3 tablespoon fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 3 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Combine glaze ingredients in a saucepan. Bring mixture to boil, remove from heat, and allow to cool. Preheat grill for high heat. Place drip pan under grill grate. Clean turkey and remove giblets and neck. Truss legs and wings with kitchen twine. Turn heat down to medium (or to at least 300 degrees) and grease grill grate. Place bird onto grill breast side up and cook for 1 1/2 hours. Brush bird liberally with cranberry glaze, turn 90 degrees and cook for another hour. Continue basting with cranberry sauce and turning 90 degrees every hour. Turkey should cook for 4 or more hours. When temperature of inner thigh reaches 180 degrees and juices run clear, the turkey is done. Remove carefully from grill and allow to sit for 15 minutes before carving.

Next time, without the oops, Member johnniemo

I decided to rotisserie by 14lb turkey for this recipe, however I had to leave the house right after putting it on the grill. I cooked it at 350 and unfortunately didn't get home until 3 hours later. I found the bird hanging off the spit no longer spinning. I didn't even get a single coat of the glaze on it! By this point it was done (yes 3 hours for a 14lb bird) and then I glazed it and used the glaze as a gravy. The glaze was very tasty and the turkey, despite all its woes, was excellent. I'd really like to try this again, without the oops.
