Pittsburgh Burger

By Derrick Riches, About.com

This isn't a grilling recipe, but it is the favorite burger of Pittsburgh. More of a slow cooked sloppy joe sort of sandwich, this burger uses chipped or chopped ham cooked up with your favorite barbecue sauce and served on buns or rolls.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 4 hours

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds chipped or chopped ham
  • 3 cups barbecue sauce
  • 1 1/2 onions, diced
  • 2 green peppers, chopped
  • 8 Kaiser rolls
  • shredded cheddar cheese

Preparation:

Place all ingredients, except rolls and cheese in a slow cooker. Cook on a medium heat for about 4 hours. Scoop mixture onto rolls and top with cheese. Serve this on a plate because it's messy.
