Shrimp and Pineapple Kebabs

This is a quick and simple way to prepare shrimp kebabs any day of the week and do it with a Hawaiian twist.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: Serves 4


  • 1 pound peeled shrimp
  • 1 15 ounce can pineapple chunks
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 3 green onions, cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 4 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes


Combine soy sauce, pineapple chunks, 2 tablespoons of pineapple juice (from the can), oil, garlic, red pepper flakes and green onions in a large resealable bag. Turn to mix. Add shrimp. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Remove shrimp and pineapple from bag and thread loosely onto skewers. Preheat grill. Grill kebabs until shrimp is completely pink all around.

Hawaiian Shrimp Kebobs, Member Swordansar

Sorry folks. This was one of the worst dishes I have ever made with Shrimp. I do shrimp dishes probaby twice a week so I know what I'm talking about. First, one should NEVER marinate shrimp more than 30 minutes, especially if there is an acid present in the marinade. I was skeptical using Pineapple and Pineapple juice for the marinade as it is high in Papain, a strong digestive enzyme. I followed the recipe to a tee and it cam out as mush, soggy and unappetizing. We threw away 2 pounds of 16-21 count shrimp (not cheap). I also did the Austrailian Shrimp dish featured on your email today. It was passable but certainly not on my top 10 list. Normally you guys post good recipes but this one needs to be refined.
