Cedar plank salmon is a classic recipe for the grill. You get all the flavor of the grill with real smoke even if you are using a gas grill with the convenience of cooking a large, delicate fish fillet on a cedar plank. This grilled salmon recipe is definitely going to please. One trick is to keep the salmon fillet on the cedar plank the whole time, from the preparation to serving. If you place the cedar plank on a sheet of foil you and put the whole thing on the table.

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Cook Time: 40 minutes

Total Time: 1 hour

Yield: Serves 4 to 6

Ingredients:

  • 1 2-pound salmon fillet
  • juice and zest of two lemons
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon of dried dill or 1/4 cup of fresh dill, chopped
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 untreated cedar plank

Preparation:

Soak cedar plank in water for at least 30 minutes. Preheat grill for medium high heat. Remove cedar plank from water and place salmon fillet on top. Place it evenly in the middle of the plank. Brush salmon fillet with olive oil. Zest lemons and squeeze juice over salmon. Top with lemon zest, dill, salt, and pepper.

Place plank on the grill in the center. Cover grill and allow to grill until salmon is cooked through the middle (about 30 to 40 minutes). To check for doneness cut through salmon in the thickest part. The salmon should appear dull and pink in cool and flake easily.
