This is a fantastic, classic-style Carolina barbecue rub recipe. Try this rub next time you want to make a traditional Carolina Pulled Pork.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 10 minutes

Yield: Makes about 1 cup/240 mL

  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL salt
  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL sugar
  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL ground cumin
  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL chili powder
  • 2 tablespoons/30 mL freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon/15 mL cayenne pepper
  • 1/4 cup/60 mL paprika

Combine all ingredients in a small bowl and mix well; use as a dry rub on beef, chicken, lamb or pork.

N.C. RUB, Member HighDesertDweller

I am a big Lover of North Carolina BBQ and I will attest this is the true recipe for N.C. Rub. I keep some of this rub in a shaker jar and decided one day to try this on some wings. fresh out of the oil I sprinkled a bunch of this rub on those wings and I gotta tell you, forget the hot sauce or BBQ sauce or whatever you put on your wings, this is the way to go. great on buttered popcorn also. WARNING.... Once you taste this rub you will be trying it on everything!!!
