Fire Nuts

By Derrick Riches, About.com

When you look at this, it sounds like these peanuts will be too hot to eat. The smoking process however tones down the heat and gives the peanuts a delicious flavor. You must use raw, unsalted, not roasted, nuts for this recipe to work.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 1 hour, 00 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups raw peanuts
  • 1/2 cup hot pepper sauce
  • salt to taste

Preparation:

Pour nuts and hot sauce into a bowl. Let sit 30 minutes or until the nuts of soaked up the hot sauce. Place on a smoker safe cooking dish large enough to make one layer of nuts. Lightly salt. Place in prepared smoker at 200-220 degrees. Smoke for one hour or until brown and dry. Remove from smoker and place on absorbent paper to cool. Serve. Despite the hot sauce these nuts are not that hot, but are delicious.
