Traditional Shish Kebabs are made with lamb. Marinate the meat long enough to get the flavor into the lamb and grill it hot and fast. This is truly a classic dish that is worth making a regular in your diet.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 25 minutes

Yield: Serves 4 to 6

Ingredients:

  • 2 to 2 1/2 pounds of lamb, trimmed of excess fat and cut into 1 inch cubes
  • 1 cup marinade (your choice)
  • 3 medium bell peppers, cut into 1 inch pieces (various colors)
  • 1 large red onion cut into 1 inch pieces
  • lemon and lime wedges

Preparation:

Place lamb pieces with marinade into a resealable container (a large zip top bag works best). Toss and refrigerate for 2 to 24 hours. The longer you marinate the more flavor the meat will gain. Preheat grill. Thread lamb, onion and pepper pieces onto skewers, intermixing the pieces. Place kebabs on hot grill and cook for about 7 to 8 minutes, uncovered. Turn to cook each of the 4 sides for the same amount of time. Remove when cooked to desired doneness and serve with lemon and lime slices.

Excellent recipe but there is only 1 problem! The term ""shish Kebab"" is an American faux pas! The actual term is ""SHASHLIK"" or pluralized as ""SHASHLIKI"". No where is the term shish kebab used. Kebabs are real but not 'shish kebabs""....!
