These minty lamb burgers work well served either on pita bread or a bun. If you are using pita, a nice yogurt sauce with cilantro would enhance the already delicious flavor of the meat. Experiment with condiments and see what works best for you.

Prep Time: 13 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 23 minutes

Yield: Makes 4 1/4-pound burgers

Ingredients:

  • 1 pounds ground lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup fresh mint, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon hot sauce, optional
  • olive oil
  • pita bread or hamburger buns

Preparation:

Preheat grill for medium-high heat. Combine lamb, egg, garlic, onion, and seasoning in bowl. Shape into 4 large patties. Brush with olive oil and place onto grill. Cook for about 5 minutes per side. When meat is cooked through, remove from heat and serve on burger bun or pita bread.

Excellent! Skip the buns or pita bread and just serve as is. The bread isn't necessary and would detract from the meat.
