Rum and Pepper Ham Steaks

By Derrick Riches, About.com Guide

If you like ham steaks and spicy food, then this dish is for you. You can omit the jalapeno or use only half if you want to keep the spice factor down.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 bone-in ham steaks
  • 1/2 cup rum
  • 1/2 cup orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon lime zest
  • 1 jalapeno pepper, sliced

Preparation:

Combine all ingredients for marinade in a medium mixing bowl. Place ham steaks in a resealable plastic bag, and pour mixture over steaks. Seal bag and allow to marinate for 3-4 hours in refrigerator. Preheat grill. Remove steaks from bag and reserve marinade. Place marinade mixture, including jalapenos, in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a boil, reduce heat and allow mixture to reduce by half. Place ham steaks on grill and cook on medium heat for 13-15 minutes. Remove from heat, slice, and serve with cooked marinade.
