Green Valley Burgers

From John Bade, for About.com

These burger patties are stuffed with roasted green chilies and monterey jack cheese. You probably won't need too many toppings with a burger this good.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef (round or sirloin)
  • 1/4 cup dark beer
  • 1 fresh egg
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can chopped green chilies, drained
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 cup monterey jack cheese, shredded

Preparation:

Combine ground beef, beer, egg, salt and pepper and form into 8 patties 1/4 - 3/8" thick.

Heat olive oil in a skillet over a very low heat, stir in flour and cook, stirring constantly, until light brown, being careful not to let it burn. Add garlic and green chilies and continue to cook until heated through, again, do not burn.

Divide mixture between 4 patties and spread to approximately 1/2" from edge. Sprinkle 2 tablespoons monterey jack cheese on top of mixture. Top with another patty and seal the edges tightly.

Grill to desired doneness and serve on sesame seed buns.
