Another innovative product is the Town and Country Grill by Down South Inc. The story is that Vance Patterson; CEO of Patterson Fans noticed a couple of his employees grilling their lunch on a charcoal grill they had built from spare fan parts. Vance notice that while this grill produced plenty of heat for cooking, the unit didnt get hot. This is because the shape of the grill focused the heat on the food but also distributed the heat away from the grill itself. Hence, a company was born. The Town and Country grill uses this patented convection, design but also has a movable top that lets you to move the food, lid and cooking grid away from the heat source, allowing you to baste foods without getting burned. It also gives you easy access to the fire if you need to add coals and lets you move everything out of the path of flare-ups. Distribution of this unit is still limited so you need to contact them about getting one. The unit is stainless steel and built to last.
On the Kamado end, Kamado Cooker has recently worked out a deal to get their grills manufactured in Indonesia. This increases their ability to produce products while holding down the costs. Look for them to expand distribution in the near future. Big Green Egg continues to dominate the market with expanding exports to Canada, but there hasn't been a lot of innovation from them lately. If you want something new try Primo Grill's ultra futuristic gas powered grill. It still has the same ceramic body, but this one's encased in a metal shell. It runs around $1,200. Viking, maker of high end grills and professional cooking equipment has been showing off a prototype that is very similar to Primo's. Theirs is encased in stainless steel, but dont go looking for it yet, it could be just a prototype for a while. If price is important Grill Dome is still the cheapest.
