Guide Review - Kenmore 840 Gas Grill Model# 16237
This is a big, shiny gas grill built by Char-Broil in China for Sears. It is made with low quality 430 stainless steel body, powder coated steel side tables and 304 (5 year warranty) stainless steel burners. All this makes this grill look great on the showroom floor, but this grill simply isn't built to last. Powder coating steel rusts as soon and anything scratches off the powder coating (like a BBQ tool?) and 430 stainless steel discolors and rusts in the elements. None of these features are designed to last. So the question is, why spend as much as $800USD for a big grill that will need to be replaced in two years.
This grill has good features with a full function side burner and rear mounted rotisserie burner. What it really has is loads of grilling space, heated by 5 stainless steel burners. The problem with grills this big, with this many burners is that you will need to fire up at least four of them to grill a single steak. This isn't exactly efficient. Ask yourself if you really need that much space before you invest in a grill this big. In grills, bigger and shinier isn't always better.
This grill has a five year warranty on the burners, but it's the burner mountings that are weak and covered for only a year. The warranty on this unit sounds impressive, but is not going to take care of the problems you are most likely to have.
