Char-Broil Terrace Stainless Steel

About.com Rating twohalf out of Five

By Derrick Riches, About.com

The Bottom Line

Char-Broil's new grills are designed to answer the biggest complaints against them. Heavy cast iron burners replace the cheap steel burners of the past. Stainless steel body parts make them look nicer. Unfortunately, this model is a mix of good and bad parts. While the burners and stainless steel will last, the cheap pop-rivets that hold it together rust almost immediately. This grill is also low on the BTUs.
Pros
  • Relatively attractive design
  • Three burners
  • Always on sale (list price is about $555, usually sells for $399)
Cons
  • BTU rating a little low
  • Only partial stainless steel construction
  • Low quality construction
  • Low quality stainless steel rusts quickly and easily.

  • Electronic Ignition
  • Porcelain coated steel cooking grates
  • 420 square inches of primary cooking area with a total of 585 square inches

Guide Review - Char-Broil Terrace Stainless Steel

This Grill has been discontinued.

Gas grills are lasting longer these days and this Char-Broil grill will certainly outlast previous models. The porcelain coated cast iron burners are guaranteed for 10 years. The Stainless steel has a warranty of 99 years. Everything else however, is only guaranteed for two years. Char-Broil has made this grill look good and put in some good parts, but the overall construction leaves a little to be desired. If you do buy this grill, assemble it yourself and seal the rivets down the back to prevent rusting.

On the cooking side, this unit has three independently controlled burners that give you good control over your grilling. Both multi-level heat zones and indirect grilling work well with this grill. The bar type burners give a more even heating than lower end Char-Broil grills. I would like to see a little more power out of the burners, but only by about 4,000 BTUs, so it's pretty close. The 10,000 BTU side burner is powerful enough and the stainless steel cover will help keep it in working order. Some variations of this model don't come with a side burner so make sure you look for it when purchasing.

On a side note, this grill is listed at over $500 by Char-Broil yet it sells everywhere for about $400. It is built to sell at $400 but Char-Broil wants you to think you got a good deal so they list it higher.
