Thermos Stainless Steel Gas Grill Review

About.com Rating 2

By Derrick Riches, About.com

The Bottom Line

This Thermos grill is made by Char-Broil for Target stores. Thermos had nothing to do with it. The main selling point of this grill is the nearly complete stainless steel construction and it's high BTU output for the size. On the other hand the materials used to make this grill are low quality, from the 400 series stainless steel to the weak cast iron burners. This grill will need a good amount of attention to keep it working and looking good more than a few years. It is sold through Target.

Pros

  • Stainless steel construction throughout
  • Three independently controlled main burners
  • Decent BTU output for the size

Cons

  • Uneven heating
  • Very low quality stainless steel (may rust)
  • Low quality construction
  • Cast Iron burners may rust

  • 408 square inches of primary cooking space
  • 40,000 BTU output from the main burners
  • 12,000 BTU side burner
  • Electronic ignition
  • Enclosed cabinet
  • 400 series stainless steel construction
  • Made by Char-Broil

Guide Review - Thermos Stainless Steel Gas Grill Review

This grill has been discontinued. It is replaced by the Thermos Stainless Steel Gas Grill.

For around $400 you can buy a completely stainless steel gas grill. This Thermos labeled gas grill is made by Char-Broil and sold through Target Stores to catch attention with its shiny surface. Unfortunately, once you look a little deeper you see that the overall quality of construction and materials is poor. This unit is made from 430 stainless steel and will require a lot of care to retain its appearance. The cast iron burners put out a sufficient heat for the 408 square inches of primary cooking space, but they will be prone to rusting if they are not protected.

This thermos grill does come with a 12,000 BTU side burner, but as is typically of this level of gas grill the side burner is light weight and may not perform well after a year or so. You get a fully enclosed cabinet and a hood mounted thermometer but this is a grill built for appearance and not for grilling, style without substance. I have to recommend staying away from this grill.
