Char-Broil Commercial Series 64,000 BTU Gas Grill

About.com Rating 2.5

By Derrick Riches, About.com

The Bottom Line

This grill has the perfect solution to the number one problem of gas grills; life-time warranted cast brass burners. Of course these are made form low quality brass, but if they go bad, you get a new set. The burners are designed with a tent like top to keep drippings off the ports so this grill has no barrier and hence no way of distributing the heat. So what you get for nearly $500 is a grill that heats unevenly, but has a shiny appearance and brass burners.

Pros

  • Cast Brass Burners
  • Double walled lid
  • Stainless steel construction

Cons

  • Low quality 430 stainless steel

Guide Review - Char-Broil Commercial Series 64,000 BTU Gas Grill

This model has been replaced with Char-Broil 65,200 BTU 5-Burner Gas Grill (model #463268806)

First off all since the first thing you see about this grill is it's largely stainless steel appearance I think the most important problem with this grill is that it has not high quality 304 stainless steel. All the stainless steel on this grill is low quality 430 stainless steel which is prone to rust, discoloring and well, staining. I don't know what the term for stained stainless steel is, but I've had a lot of people complain about these Char-Broil grills rusting. Not what I would call stainless.

Second of all, this grill has a life-time warranty on its cast brass burners, which clog because there is not barrier over them. The burners will not rust, though they may warp (a problem with low quality brass). The burners are designed with a triangular top to protect the ports (holes the fire comes out) from drippings. Because of this, this grill doesn't have a barrier. No method for burning off drippings or distributing heat. It's kind of like cooking directly over the burner on a gas stove.

The overall construction of the cart is typically of both Char-Broil and many of these stainless steel units. The legs are flimsy and the structure is held together by the side panels and doors. This makes the unit weak and a little unstable. All in all I have to say that this grill, while not terrible, it is deceptive in its mixture of selling points with bad design.
