Brinkmann Pro Series 4040 45,000 BTU Gas Grill

Brinkmann Corporation

The Bottom Line

This grill retails around $400 and is distributed through Walmart stores. The poor cart construction makes the grill a little unstable and there have been several problems with assembly of these grills. The grill is designed to look like a nice stainless steel grill, but unfortunately the stainless steel used in it is prone to staining and rust. The side burner will need to be taken care of to prevent it from rusting. The cooking grates are poorly coated porcelain coated cast iron.

Pros

  • Standard cast iron burners
  • Relatively attractive design
  • Heavy porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates

Cons

  • Most of the stainless steel is 430, cheap steel that rusts
  • Bad heat distribution
  • Poor overall construction
  • Poor porcelain coating on cooking grates
  • Poor support from either Brinkmann or Wal-Mart

Description

  • Three stainless steel tubular 15,000 BTU burners
  • 45,000 total BTUs
  • 475 square inches or primary grilling area for a total of 585 square inches
  • 12,000 BTU cast iron side burner
  • Complete stainless steel construction, though most of it is cheap 430 stainless steel
  • Porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates
  • Sold exclusively through Wal-Mart

Guide Review - Brinkmann Pro Series 4040 45,000 BTU 3-burner

This grill has been discontinued.

This grill is made mostly of stainless steel in hopes of making it look better than it really is. The stainless steel burners are light weight and the porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates are poorly coated. They will have trouble lasting under very long, heavy use. The cart construction is weak and the grill has an unstable feel to it. This unit is at the top of the line of Brinkmann gas grills that you will find at Wal-Mart. While the price sounds good compared with other stainless steel grills, this grill will not last.

The money spent making this grill was used to make it look good in the store. The stainless steel however, will quickly discolor. The heat output from the three stainless steel 15,000 BTU burners is pretty good for the size but the thin metals and poor heat flow will keep this grill from reaching high temperatures. Of course, high temperatures will damage some of the internal components so I guess that isn't necessarily a bad thing.

I have received several reports from people who purchased similar Brinkmann grills only to say that the cart construction is bad and that assembly has missed a few bolts. However, if you aren't going to be investing much in a grill, this unit will most likely give you a year or two of service.
