Bar-B-Chef 3-Burner Gas Grill Review

About.com Rating four out of Five

By Derrick Riches, About.com

The Bottom Line

This grill has been discontinued. Barbeques Galore imports its own line of grills. This one sits at the bottom of the line. This is a grill designed for cooking and has no features other than the main grill. It has a good warranty and heavy components but the reliance on porcelain coatings forces you to take extra care of the grill. While not a bad grill it doesn't take advantage of more modern design or components. This is a good grill at the price (around $200).
Pros
  • Individual ignitors on each burner
  • Heavy cast iron burners
  • Full width drip tray
Cons
  • Porcelain coatings can chip and expose metal to rust
  • Limited features
  • Not terribly attractive with its outdated design

Guide Review - Bar-B-Chef 3-Burner Gas Grill Review

This grill has been discontinued.

Barbeques Galore is the worlds first franchised grill store. They are a big company who imports grills primary made in China for the Australian and American market. It is an Australian company. The Bar-B-Chef line is at the bottom of their grill line. Barbeques Galore has a good reputation for service and support and is in the business for the long haul (they have over 150 stores). I have never heard anything bad about their support.

This grill has three porcelain coated cast iron burners producing 4,000 BTUs under a primary cooking area of 494 square inches. While this is a little light this grill does produce good, even heat though you might want to give it an extra minute or two to heat up. The porcelain coated steel cooking grates will require you to take good care not to chip them but are a good cooking surface. If you're interested I'm told you can change out the grates and burners for stainless steel.

As a grill that can cook this is a good one. About $200 you can't get many other grills with this size and power. It does have a primitive design, but at this price range you really should be looking for a grill that cooks well and not something fancy. While there really isn't anything that stands out about this grill and you don't get anything but a basic grill, the price is certainly right. You can a lot do worse.
