Guide Review - Vermont Castings 60,000 BTU Gas Grill Review (Model VM600BSP)
Home Depot has discontinued carrying Vermont Castings Grills. This grill is no longer manufactured. The Castings in Vermont Castings comes from their days making cast iron fireplace inserts and stoves. Vermont Castings never went the way of cheap sheet metal or cast aluminum body parts. These grills are made with lots of cast iron. This grill has a stainless steel hood with cast iron end caps making for both an attractive grill and a solid piece of equipment. Now I know what you're thinking. Cast iron rusts. Vermont Castings knows how to treat cast iron and all cast iron components are either porcelain coated or covered in a heavy coating of thermal resistant enamel paint.
The heating properties of this grill are good. The 60,000 BTU rating of it's four main burners is enough to heat the 600 square inches of primary grilling space. The cast iron components act to hold heat giving this grill a very even cooking surface and great indirect cooking abilities.
This unit also comes with a powerful 15,000 BTU side burner which is enclosed under a flush mounted stainless steel cover. This grill is also supported by a good warranty.
This unit also comes standard with a powerful 20,000 BTU rear mounted rotisserie burner and full rotisserie kit. With this grill you get a lot of versatility, great cooking abilities and a good looking grill.
The biggest problem with this grill is its use of lower quality, 400 series, stainless steel. This means the unit will not retain its appearance and may not be as durable. This is a lower quality version of the Vermont Castings Extreme VCS5005
