Guide Review - Igloo 60,000-BTU 4-Burner Stainless Steel Gas Grill
This grill has been discontinued. Wal-Mart is currently not carrying Gas Grills under this brand name. This is yet another "all" stainless steel grill that is built with features to make people think its of good quality. This grill, sold exclusively through Wal-Mart has cast brass burners, individual igniters and is completely constructed out of stainless steel. The very list of basic elements I used to believe made a great grill. Unfortunately, this grill relies on cheap 430 stainless steel for most of the body and internal components. This is the kind of stainless steel that discolors and rusts in a short period of time and the overall construction is weak.
This unit weak in BTU output with 50,000 BTUs for it's 570 square inches of primary cooking space. Also a perfect score on my list. But the knobs are plastic as well as the mountings for the lid handle. The full length drip tray is a nice feature, but since it is made out of very thin 430 stainless steel, the grease and other stuff that drips onto it will cause it to corrode.
Lastly, this unit is another example of one of the big problems in modern grills. While it has the name Igloo stamped on the front (a name most people will recognize), this grill was manufactured and designed in China. Wal-Mart simply gave the Chinese the target price, and the basic features, and let them figure out how to deliver it for a profit.
Wal-Mart markets this grill as a 60,000 BTU gas grill. They are including the 10,000 BTU side burner in this number. Not quite false advertising.
