Cal-Flame CR-2000 Gas Grill

Cal Spas

The Bottom Line

This is the smallest of the Cal Flame stainless steel grills. It is primarily designed to fit into a Cal Spa outdoor kitchen center but can be purchased on cart. This freestanding unit has two 20,000 BTU heavy stainless steel burners that heat a primary grilling area of about 400 square inches. It doesn't come with anything else standard. This is an attractive grill with lots of power and you can add many accessories to it. This cart comes with fold down side tables and an enclosed cabinet.

  • High BTU output for the size

Guide Review - Cal Flame CR2000 Gas Grill

In the late 1990's the Cal Spa Company decided to start making their own brand of gas grills to complement their total outdoor entertainment products. They make everything from hot tubs to custom enclosures for plasma screen TVs and they make all stainless steel grills. These grills are primarily designed to be built into Cal Spas enclosures but are available on carts and in pretty much a configuration you might want. Cal Flame also produces a full line of side burners and everything else you might want for a custom outdoor kitchen.

The CR2000 is the smallest and least expensive of the Cal Flame grills. This freestanding unit runs about $1,800. There is a wide range of mounting options with this grill but for purposes of this review I'm looking at the cart mounted unit. The Cal Flame grills are completely 304 stainless steel and the components are solid and long lasting. The CR2000 has two 20,000 BTU burners that produce a nearly perfect amount of heat for the 400 square inches of primary cooking area. If you want a good looking, basic grill this is a great unit, but the grill is about all you'll get without spending more.

At $1,200 you can get a wide range of grills that include all the features you might want. Of course in the higher end market you can spend a lot more too. This unit basic unit is designed to be added to and Cal-Flame has a nearly endless list of extras and accessories you can add on. This unit is internally powered so that you can connect your rotisserie motor directly to the grill for power (water proof connection).

Looking to the Cal Flame CR3000 Gas Grill for a larger, more powerful version of this grill.
