Want a reliable, easy to use, no flare-up gas grill? Need or want a small, 2-burner version? This is a small, 330 square inch, infrared gas grill that is among the best of this type of gas grill. Built on Saber's infrared technology, this grill gets very hot with a small dose of propane (or natural gas if you pay for the conversion kit). More importantly, this is a reliable grill that doesn't flare-up and is very easy to use.

In recent years a number of grill manufacturers have started producing attractive but small 2-burner gas grills for all the aging boomers, condo dwellers and, well, anyone else who doesn't need or want a big, full sized grill. Perfect for a couple of steaks or burgers, this new market really owes itself to Char-Broil, who started producing small, infrared gas grills a few years ago. So, it was obvious that when the new line or Saber grills, owned by the same company that owns Char-Broil, there would be a small, patio grill. Actually there would be two. The other one, the Saber SS 330 runs $1,000 and is complete stainless steel construction. This one, the Saber Cast 330 has enameled steel and cast aluminum parts in addition to some stainless steel body parts. Both have the exact same internal components and fit the same accessories, so the only difference really is a cosmetic one so if you want to save yourself $200USD, you might want to consider this one instead. It really is a better deal.

In this grill the burners are in separate boxes so that heat generated by each burner has a heat zone of its own. The burners focus their heat at a stainless steel sheet of perforated metal that sits directly under the U-shape cooking grates. The perforations in the infrared emitter are under the U's in the cooking grate. This means that virtually no drippings get through and no hot air reaches the food. Cooking is completely by contact with the hot grates and heat radiated by the metal emitter and grates.

While all this might sound technical, the practical up shot is that this is a very easy grill to use. The design makes flare-ups virtually impossible. The grates get hot enough to give you good grill makes and to sear a steak, but the distribution of the heat reduces the chances of foods burning. Because the grill is completely infrared and the flow of air from the burners is channels away from foods reducing the drying affect that grills can have. I'm not going to say that this gas grill is foolproof, but it is pretty close.

One issue with this grill is the price of getting it to natural gas. There are a lot of people who can use a gas grill on their balcony or patio if it is natural gas. Fortunately you can convert this grill to natural gas, but the conversion kit will run you around $150USD. That turns an $800 gas grill into a $950 grill.
