Brinkman 5-Burner Gas Grill Model #810-9520-S

Brinkman 5-Burner Gas Grill Model #810-9520-S

The Brinkmann Corporation

The Bottom Line

For Brinkmann and Home Depot 5 seems to be the magic number. Several large 5-burner gas grills are hitting the market from these two this year and this is the least expensive of the group at around $300. While a well featured grill the quality of components and construction limit the lifespan and function of this grill. You get a five burner unit with side burner but it is a flimsy and lightweight grill. The body is a mixture of low grade stainless steel and porcelain coated steel.

Pros

  • High heat output

Cons

  • Made from low quality materials including 430 stainless steel
  • Low quality construction

Description

  • Five 12,000 BTU stainless steel tubular burners
  • 514 square inches of primary grilling area for a total of 634 square inches of cooking space
  • 60,000 BTU total output from main burners
  • 12,000 BTU brass capped side burner under a flush mounted cover
  • Porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates
  • Body constructed from porcelain coated steel and cast iron and 430 stainless steel
  • Piezoelectric on knob ignition
  • Grill cover, rotisserie kit, and propane tank sold separately
  • Made by Brinkmann in China exclusively for Home Depot's Charmglow Brand

Guide Review - Brinkman 5-Burner Gas Grill Model #810-9520-S

This model has been discontinued. It is replaced by the Brinkmann Zone 3-Burner Gas Grill with Rotisserie Model# 810-2390-S .

This is a big grill with a high BTU output for the size. A basic grill with side burner my belief is that this grill sits on the showroom floor to complete the line of Brinkmann Grills at Home Depot. All are large, five burner grills but the more expensive units come with extras like side searing burners (Brinkmann 5-Burner Sear and Side Burner Model #810-8501-S) or a built in smoker (Brinkmann 5-Burner with Smoker Model #810-1750-S). To be honest if you had to pick from these three models, this is the one I would choose. Without a lot of extras this grill is a much more practical idea, a basic grill for less money. It won't last longer, but you won't have to spend as much.

This gas grill, like most imports, is built on a pretty standard model. The basic body of this grill is a combination of painted sheet metal and low grade stainless steel. The burners are fixed inside with some lightweight fasteners and are lit by spark igniters connected to the control valves on the front. If you keep these igniters clean (careful not to break them because they are fragile) you should have trouble lighting this grill. There is no cross connection to the burners so if one doesn't light, gas can build up until it reaches a lit burner.

What goes wrong in grill like this is typically the burners. The metal used is very thin and the small holes (ports) along the side can become clogged giving you uneven heating. This can be a real problem in this grill since the heat isn't that even to start with. Once the burners begin to corrode the ports will enlarge and the lowered gas pressure will leave you with a yellow, sooty flame. This can cause foods to taste strange.

Brinkman 5 Burner Gas Grill, Member Iceman1781

I bought my new Brinkman gas grill last weekend after exploring the market for a few weeks, or so. I have owned 3 different models of gas grill in the past. This one ""out of the box"" was the easiest to put togther and the nicest looking of all of them. I did'nt even need the instructions to assemble it (took about 1/2 hour to assemble). I am concerned about some of the reviews I've read online with the other owners about the ""bad customer service with Brinkman"", or the complaints about poor quality of parts. So far, I like the way it grills and the way it looks. I guess it will take some time to see how well the parts last in Minnesota winter weather because I grill all year long.
