Brinkmann Medallion 5-Burner Model# 810-4580-SB

Brinkmann Corporation

The Bottom Line

Yet again, a big Brinkmann Gas Grill from Home Depot. This version is more basic than previous models that have been stuffed with smokers, dual side burners, and extras. Of course with five burners and a "sear" side burner, this still isn't a simple grill. This model is designed to look impressive until it has been purchased. The heat output is low, most of the extras are just gimmicks, but the price is cheap and the size impressive.

Pros

  • Very large grill

Cons

  • Low heat output
  • Poor quality components
  • Largely useless side burner
  • Low grade stainless steel parts

Description

  • Five 10,000 BTU stainless steel tubular burners
  • 627 square inches of primary grilling area for a total of 761 square inches of cooking space
  • 50,000 BTU maximum output from the main burners
  • 12,000 BTU side burner under a flush mounted, sliding cover
  • Porcelain coated cast iron cooking grates
  • Left side table contains a drawer
  • Body constructed from porcelain coated steel and 430 stainless steel
  • Electric (AA battery) push button ignition
  • Grill cover, rotisserie kit, and propane tank sold separately
  • Manufactured in China by The Brinkmann Corporation exclusively for Home Depot

Guide Review - Brinkmann Medallion 5-Burner Gas Grill Model# 810-4580-SB

It is my opinion that some executive at Home Depot calls up Brinkmann every year and orders a model or two of a 5-burner gas grill with extras. What the extras are doesn't really matter. What matters is that it is big and that it have extra features that can be advertised. In the past these grills have included gas powered smokers, multiple side burners, and even a refrigerator. This one at least lacks those ridiculous features.

In fact, this gas grill has a feature that I like, a drawer in the left side table. Drawers are useful. This draw however, well, if you get a chance take a hold of it and give it a little twist. This should be all anyone needs to know about this grill and the quality of its construction.

Aside from that, this is typical of this type of gas grill. The large cooking surface requires five burners to give it relatively even heating. The power of these burners is limited to prevent the heat from discoloring the paint and stainless steel parts of the hood. This makes this an underpowered gas grill. The other listed feature is the side burner, which is labelled as a side/sear because it has a cooking grate over the burner. It isn't as useful as it is advertised.

Ultimately it is the quality of the construction that is the downfall of this grill. Large and loaded with parts for around $400USD, this grill, like most all Brinkmann grills, relies on low quality components that are prone to corrosion and failure. While the warranty gives this model lifetime protection on the burners, the housing that holds them in place is only listed for one year. Guess which part fails first.

I rate this grill a 9 on a scale of 1 to 10. The review by Derrick Riches is biased and inaccurate. ""The heat output is low""??? Mine reaches 450 to 500 degrees in less than 5 minutes. ""Useless Side Burner""? Try holding your hand on the grill Derrick. You will have 3rd degree burns in less than 5 seconds. You must have ""tested"" a grill put together by a couple of college drop outs working for Home Depot. What exactly did you cook for you evaluation anyway? a hotdog? Again, don't let Derrick's ""review"" prevent you from giving ths pit serious consideration. It is solid, has some really nice features and yes the burners are under lifetime warranty. Derrick's statement about the burner housing failing before the burners is absolutely rediculous. It's like saying your auto's intake manifold will need replacement before the fuel injectors. I was amazed at the negative review of this grill. I am very pleased with the functionality, the looks and the price. The only negative is the assembly instructions.......they missed a couple of steps.
