This is a classic tomato based barbecue sauce with loads of flavor. Turn up the heat by adding more cayenne pepper.

Prep Time: 15 minutes

Total Time: 15 minutes

Yield: Makes about 3 cups

  • 1 1/2 cups ketchup
  • 6 tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • juice of one lemon

Combine all ingredients in a large saucepan. Mix and heat, without boiling for 5 to 10 minutes.

The first time I tried this sauce I thought to myself, ""this is DAMN GOOD SAUCE!"" Now it is the only recipe I use and I wouldn't think twice about putting a different sauce on any of my barbque. The combination of this sauce with the kansas city dry rib rub on my ribs is dynamite! If you prefer a ketchup based sauce with a lot of flavor and good heat, I highly recomend this recipe.
