This is a great classic tomato-based barbecue sauce. You can adjust the heat by changing the amount of hot sauce you use.
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 30 minutes
Total Time: 45 minutes
Yield: Makes about 6 cups
Ingredients:
- 3 cups onions, chopped
- 2 cups ketchup
- 1 cup dry white wine
- 1 cup bell pepper, chopped
- 1/4 cup parsley, dried
- 1/4 cup honey
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons vinegar
- 2 tablespoons lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 tablespoon liquid smoke
- 1/2 tablespoon Louisiana hot sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon mint, dried
Preparation:
Place all ingredients in a large pot. Bring to a boil. Stir until mixed well. Simmer for 30 minutes on low. Remove from heat and allow to cool. This sauce tastes a lot better if you store it in the refrigerator overnight or for a few days.
