Tar-Heel BBQ Sauce

This recipe is attributed to the Rev. Frank Purvis of Hassel, North Carolina and is an excellent sauce for Pulled Pork.
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes
Yield: Makes About 5 Cups
Ingredients:
  • 1 quart cider vinegar
  • 1/4 pound melted butter
  • 1/3 cup onion minced
  • 1/3 cup tomato paste
  • 2 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper fresh ground
Preparation:
Mix the ingredients together in a sauce pan over a low heat. Stir and cook for 15 minutes. Remove from heat. Use as a basting sauce for grilled or smoked meats and as a dipping sauce when serving the meats.

Vinegar and not much else, Member mrchrisburke

This one is awful. We tried reducing it, adding sugar, upping the pepper and tomato paste--nothing worked. Tasted like straight vinegar, and was only a little thicker than that.
