North Carolina BBQ Chicken Sauce
Smoked and pulled chicken takes half the time of pulled pork and gives you the fixings for a great barbecue sandwich. This sauce finishes off barbecue chicken perfectly.

Prep Time: 10 minutes

Cook Time: 10 minutes

Total Time: 20 minutes

Yield: Makes about 2 cups


  • 1 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1/2 tablespoon hot pepper sauce


Mix all ingredients together in a sauce pan and let simmer for 10 minutes. Once chicken is cooked, shred and add sauce to coat.

NC BBQ Chicken Sauce, Member krshome

This is not a sweat sauce it is a vinegar sauce like the Piedmont/Western NC sauces. I love it! It is best on chicken, for pork try the Piedmont Barbecue Sauce it is very close in taste but less sweet.
