I know that people are either going to agree that this is the traditional Kansas City Barbecue Sauce or they are not. There is a lot of variation in barbecue in Kansas City and a lot of different sauces. This one fits the bill though, sweet and spicy, thin enough to pour easily and without molasses.

Yield: Makes about 2 1/2 cups
Ingredients:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/3 cup apple cider vinegar
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons light cooking oil
- 2 tablespoons paprika
- 1 tablespoon garlic powder
- 1 tablespoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon salt
- 1 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon cayenne (optional)
Preparation:
Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over a medium heat. Stir constantly for 5 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool. Store in an airtight container. Refrigerate.
