Grilled lamb sausage in a warmed bun or pita, topped with toasted cumin and mint yogurt sauce. If you're tired of the usual cookout hot dog and looking to try something new, then this is certainly the sausage sandwich to try!

Ingredients

For Sauce:

  • 2 teaspoons (10 milliliters) cumin seeds

  • 6 whole peppercorns

  • 1 1/2 cups (360 milliliters) plain Greek yogurt

  • 1 garlic clove, minced

  • 1/2 teaspoon (2 1/2 milliliters) sea salt

  • 1 small tomato, seeded and chopped

  • 4 mint leaves, finely chopped

For the Sausages:

  • 6 sausage lamb sausages

  • 6 hot dog buns

  • Chopped cilantro, optional garnish

Steps to Make It

To Prepare Sauce:

  1. Gather the ingredients.

  2. Toast cumin seeds in a pan for 1 to 2 minutes, add peppercorns and toast for an additional minute. Remove from heat.

  3. Using spice or coffee grinder, pulverize cumin and peppercorns until powdered.

  4. Pour the yogurt to a large bowl. Stir in pulverized cumin and pepper, garlic, and salt. Add the tomato and chopped mint to the mixture and stir to combine. Store in refrigerator until ready to use.

To Prepare Sausages:

  1. Preheat grill for medium-high heat. Place lamb sausages onto the grill and cook for 10 to 12 minutes, turning often.

  2. During the last few minutes of cooking time, add buns to grill or place pitas in foil and throw onto the grill to warm.

  3. Remove from heat and place lamb sausages onto the bread of your choice and top with yogurt sauce and chopped cilantro.

  4. Serve and enjoy!
