The top 10 gas grills between the prices of $500 and $1,500

The top ten gas grills between the price of $500 and $1,500 on the market, updated for 2008. If you are looking to purchase a new grill in this price range (based on manufacturer's suggested retail price) then these are the ones you should be looking at. These Gas Grills put out plenty of heat, are built solid and have all the versatility you want. This quick review of Gas Grills should help you get started.

1. Weber Genesis E-320

Weber Genesis E320 Gas Grill (Blue)
Weber-Stephen Products Co.
All around this is one of the best gas grills on the market for it's price. Take care of it and a Weber Gas Grill will last you for a decade and give you the versatility you want to grill most anything you can think of. The high quality parts, particularly the stainless steel burners will need an occasional cleaning, but will last you long enough to pass it on to your kids. People who own Weber grills swear by them and always buy Weber. This unit is also large enough to suit almost any need.

2. Broil King Sovereign XLS 90

Broil-King Sovereign XLS 90 Gas Grill
Onward Manufacturing Company
Broil-King makes grills that cook. While appearances have been improving you can count on these grills to cook better than they look. This unit has some very impressive features, including a full rotisserie system and the revolutionary Dual-Tube stainless steel burners. At around $1,000USD this grill looks primitive when compares with more modern models. However considering the quality of this grill it's a real bargain for this four burner gas grill, with these features and this quality. This is definitely a grill worth looking at.

3. Weber Summit S-420

Weber Summit S-420 Gas Grill
Weber-Stephen Products Company
This is possibly the best of the "mass market" grills on the market. To get more quality and appearance in a grill you'll end up spending a lot more money. However, at $1,200USD for a basic model you can find grills that cook just as well for less. Of course, they wouldn't be a Weber. Weber provides an excellent warranty and support, so you'll get a good 10 years out of this grill one way or the other. I would like a few more BTUs but Weber design makes the most out of the heat this unit puts out.

4. Broilmaster P3BL

Broilmaster Premium Series P3BL
Empire Comfort Systems
Though more expensive than most grills this really is a great unit. The broilmaster grills have a distinctive styling and have great heat evenness and distribution. If you are interested in a professional quality grill that doesn't cost $6,000 then you might want to take a serious look at this grill.

5. Napoleon Prestige II (PT450)

Napoleon Prestige II PT450 Gas Grill
Napoleon Gourmet Grills
This grill can give you between 6,000 BTUs and 61,000 BTUs. Now that's control. Very even and intense heating gives you great grilling, but the lower heat control makes for fantastic slow cooking. Stainless steel burners (3), stainless steel barrier and a rear rotisserie burner plus electronic ignition. It even comes in different colors. Brass burners and an attractive design.

6. Vidalia 440

Vidalia Grill Model 440 Gas Grill
Vidalia Outdoor Products Co.
Vidalia Grill Model 440 Gas Grill Review. This gas grill is a unique unit that is half direct grill and half indirect grill. While this unit is limited in direct grill space the ability to affective indirect grill lets you smoke and slow cook many things most gas grills can't handle. The Vidalia is constructed with stainless steel components and a polished sheet aluminum body. This holds down the cost of the unit while making it very durable.

7. Holland Legacy

Holland Legacy LS Gas Grill
Holland Grills
The Holland company named this grill the Legacy because when you buy it you had better plan on including it in your will. This all stainless steel version of the popular Holland grill still won't let you adjust the burner but you'll quickly find out that you don't need too.

8. MHP Heritage Series WRG4DD Infrared Gas

MHP Heritage Series WRG4DD Infrafre Gas Grill
Modern Home Products, Corp.
This is the first cast aluminum infrared gas grill. It offers complete infrared power from three burners at a price under $1,000. This grill can be preheated in three minutes and cook at extremely high temperatures giving excellent searing power. This is probably one of the best steak cooking grills on the market. One downside is the complete infrared design will limit low temperature cooking for some items you might want to grill.

9. Ducane Meridian 24" 3-Burner

Ducane Meridian 24" 3-Burner Gas Grill
Weber-Stephen Products Company
This is an attractive grill designed by Weber, sold under the Ducane name through specialty stores and made in China. In the line of low priced complete stainless steel grills this isn't a bad unit. This, but good quality stainless steel and an efficient design let it cook well though I would say it was designed to look good before it was designed to grill. It does have a couple of good features and a whole host of extras. With a full rotisserie, side burner and good controls you get everything with this grill, but the sacrifice for the price is the thickness of the metal and the long term durability of the grill.

10. Vermont Castings Experience VCS4008

Vermont Castings VSC4007 Gas Grill
CFM Corporation
This is a heavy grill with heavy cast iron and stainless steel body parts. The 50,000 BTU output from four stainless steel burners is enough to heat the nearly 500 square inches of primary grilling area. This unit also comes with a 15,000 BTU side burner and 15,000 BTU rear mounted rotisserie burner. Loaded with features, this grill even has a back-lit control panel and flexible side mounted LED grill light. All in all this grill is well constructed but even at around $1,000USD Vermont Castings has cut back on quality. The stainless steel used in this grill isn't the best but the thickness helps.
