"Here's a link to a great article about the new Kingsford formulation on the TVWB site. Chris Allingham actually went to the lab that tests Kingsford and they put the new charcoal through the paces there.

To quickly summarize the results of the testing, the New Kingsford lights faster than the old. The issues that people are having is generally user misunderstanding. People were letting the charcoal fire up just as long as the old formula, then finding it didn't last as long. Since the charcoal lights faster, you need to start cooking a little sooner. If using the Minion method, you can shut the air vents more in order to hold the temp and use fewer lit briquettes to start. Doing these things should give you at least a long a cook time, maybe longer. But if you use the same lighting time and vent settings as the old formula, you'll burn this charcoal up faster."
