How important is "green" grilling to you?

A while back one of the "industry" people asked me about green grilling. There has been some attention lately regarding environmentally friendly outdoor cooking. Some people have been concerned about all those summer cookouts causing pollution and environmental problems. Others don't think that outdoor cooking presents much of a risk. There has been some good and bad science on both sides of the argument and it is hard to tell what the truth is. One popular story concerns the total amount of energy Americans use to cook their July 4th meal. It works out to enough power to run all the households in the United States for about an hour and 20 minutes. Anyway, perception is sometimes as important as science these days and I thought I would get your opinion on the problem, so this weeks question is:

POLL: How important is "green" grilling to you?
1) I am willing to change the way I cook
2) I'm concerned and will do a little about it
3) Worried but not willing to make sacrifices
4) I don't really think my cooking affects anything
5) Grilling or smoking just isn't a significant problem
6) I don't care and I'm not changing

There is an exposed coal field out in Wyoming where the overburden has for millenia been thin at best, or non-existent in other areas. Researchers found ash pile layers, in the ten foot plus thick range. Figuring that with the erosion of the ash due to the climatic elements, and the equivalent of one inch of ash per foot of coal that burned, (for who knows how long) due to ignition possibly by lightning strike, there should have been around three to four hundred foot of combustible material to this coal field.
I don’t believe that man’s cooking out has had any derogatory effect on the planet’s life.
There are plenty of other venues that need to be addressed though, such as the smog that surrounds every major industrial city on the planet, the rape of the Amazon jungle, the use of testing nuclear devices (above or below ground), the amounts of pesticides and drugs that are not removed from our freshwater drinking supplies, yeah, the list goes on and on, but now they want to curb my use of the grill, …. or that I enjoy sitting up late, with a cup of coffee, just pulled off of the campfire as I stare out at the stars on a clear moonless night? Maybe some of these folks have lost their mind, or possibly they didn’t grow up on the same planet I did.
Either way, if they somehow manage to make that illegal too, then I guess I’ll be an outlaw, …. again!

Using a grill or smoker to cook your food is grren as I see it. Why would you use the oven, or stove to cook inside and then turn on the AC to maintain a comfortable indoor temperature.

I’d like to know just what ‘is’ an alternative way to grill/BBQ that would be considered green?
If there is such a thing, is it still as tasty?

I heat with wood also, so my concern is minimal! Cars , factories, buses, and blow hard politians/environmentalists produce more air polution then my smoker and grill!
