For many people outdoor cooking just isn't possible. For others it is just too inconvenient. These days there are doesn't of small appliances on the market for indoor grilling. These indoor grills can't give you the power, flavor, or experience of a patio barbecue, but if you have no other choice they give you an alternative. With the temperatures dropping across the northern hemisphere many people have put away their outdoor grills in favor of indoor ones so I thought I would put out this weeks questions:
POLL: What do you think of Indoor Grills?
1) A great way to grill
2) Good enough when its all you got
3) Better than standing out in the cold
4) No better than a frying pan
5) A complete waste of time and money

It did become an unfortunate option after years of gas grilling. It introduced me to the importance of marinades and my recipe binder has applicable notes surrounding each favorite. Friends feel I’ve done very well and enjoy my meals.
There is never any viable replacement for a real grill. The indoor grills do not develop the taste and flavors of a real grill. While there are those unfortunate not to have the space to accommodate a real grill there is no substitute for woodsmoke and the flavors created by a gas grill (or a charcoal/wood grill) – you have my condolences. Saying an indoor grill is like an outdoor grill is like saying brisket cooked in the oven is the same as a bar-b-que. If the cat had kittens in the oven you don’t call them biscuits.
Indoor grilling is fine, but not indoor grills. Nearly everyone has an oven broiler. Why spend money on another appliance that takes up extra space and will likely never reach searing temperatures?
I had one I “inherited” from a former room mate. While nowhere near hot enough to sear and a pain in the rear to clean,it was all I could use in an apartment. Unless I wanted to go 50 feet from the building!
