The debate of the Capital of Barbecue has been going on for decades, if not hundreds of years. Recently certain people have suggested that the number one barbecue city is New York City. Okay, I am well aware that barbecue has exploded in the Big Apple, but number one?
With decent Barbecue Joints popping up all over the world these days the regional flavors of barbecue are blurring. I mean, would you really order the pulled pork sandwich in Austin? With barbecue all over the question where barbecue's capital is, may be leading to new answers. Anyway, this brings us to this weeks question:
POLL: Where do you think the Barbecue Capital is?
1) Charleston, South Carolina
2) Kansas City, Missouri
3) Lexington, North Carolina
4) Lockhart, Texas
5) Memphis, Tennessee
6) New York City, New York
7) Owensboro, Kentucky
8) Santa Maria, California
9) Other (Please Specify in the Comments)

Peoples own houses. Anytime you BBQ your own food, it turns out better then any restaurant.
Like Jason said. At home I bbq for my family and friends and it is done in celebration of “something” worthwhile. I am not concerned if there will be a profit or go broke!
The BBQ capital should be Thief River Falls, MN……Just kidding
My vote vote is for Memphis, TN.
right here at the home of Industrial Strength BBQ For the Mind & Body – Ballard, WA.
While I’ve never been to any of these capitols,I like my back yard the best!
My friends and family stopped getting ribs or tri-tip when eating out. I am told that my bbq is the best they’ve eaten! All I know is, I like eating my ‘que, but I love cooking it even more!!!
Wow my comment is still here from a year ago..
Think I’ll fire up the smoker this weekend for the big game
Vikings vs Packers
GO VIKINGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Todays BBQ as we know it, cooking on pits in the ground started in Mississippi where the slaves grilled what ever food they were allowed to have. This page has a good detailed history on grilling. http://www.thebbqguide.com/TheBBQGuide/History-of-BBQ-grilling.html
Ayden, NC, Bums restaurant, pulled pork to die for, love Blacks in Lockhart as well.
It sounds to me that there is no clear BBQ “capital” anymore. Anywhere
people live and cook is going to be the “capital” in their hearts and in their mouth. My vote is no place like home!
BBQ is where you lay your hat
