By August 25, 2012

Follow me on:

There are many wrong ways to grill a steak, but there are also many right ways. Chances are you have read my method for grilling steak, but I'd like to hear your techniques so if you have a few minutes maybe you could share your method for Grilling a Steak.

You can never have too hot a grill. PREHEAT! And keep an eye on it. If you don’t like a well done steak, flip after a couple of minutes and enjoy. It’s really that simple!

1. Season steaks (I like 1.5″ thick ribeye steak)with “Famous Dave’s Steak & Burger Seasoning”
2. Heat Gas grill on high to at least 500 degrees F. (about 10-15 minutes)
3. Clean grates with long handle wire brush and “lubricate” grates with clean rag soak in vegtable oil using long handles tongs.
4. Put steaks on the grill when it is to the desired tempurature, at about 1.5 to 2 minutes turn steaks over, grill for about a minute to a minute and a half. Flip over
45 degrees grill for 5 minutes, flip steak over grill steak to desired temp.
5. Remove from grill pour about table spoon of EVOO (Extra Virgin OLive Oil on each steak and let the steak rest for about 5 minutes eat & enjoy

For me personally:

1. Cook over live fire – Almond, Oak or Mesquite
2. Steak at room tempurature
3. Dry rub only
4. Sear over high heat 1 – 2 minutes max, both sides
5. Move to low heat – cook to personal preference
6. Remove and rest for 5 minutes (if you can wait that long…)
7. Then add your sauce, etc.

I use my CharBQ and cover 70%of my grill
On the cool side, I have my ManGrates
After 15 min the charcoals are grey
I add hickory wood chips
I slide the ManGrates over to the hot side
After another 5-10 min, when I see some smoke I add my filets on the cold side
My steaks are 1.5″-2.5″ thick
Coat with evoo
Fresh peppercorn and “hot shot”
Sprinkle vegeta
I wait about 20-30 min. Until all or most of the chips are out
(no more smoke)
I move the steaks onto of the ManGrates and cook each side for about 5-7 min on each side. Shooting for med-rare.
