The Consumer Product Safety Commission in cooperation with Sagittarius Sporting Goods of China have announced a safety recall on the Master Forge 5-Burner Gas Grill, model #L3218 sold by Lowes Home Improvement between September 2009 and November 2009. The rubber gas line may come in contact with the Grill's firebox causing it to melt. This can lead to a fire. Two cases have been reported though no property damage or injuries have been caused so far.

If you own this grill you are advised to discontinued use immediately and contact Sagittarius Sporting Goods at (800) 444-6742 between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. ET Monday through Thursday, and 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Friday for a free repair kit. This grill is imported by LG Sourcing, Inc. of North Wilkesboro, N.C. 10,000 units are affected by this recall.

For more information please go to the Consumer Product Safety Commission Website.

Just got grill, the repair kit is already supplied with grill [hose clamp to keep hose away from grill box] it does the job just fine. Most Lowes store don’t even know this in included with grill, many in my area have stopped selling it but none seen to know the fix is in the box.

Comments like “Made from low quality materials including 430 stainless steel” are really misleading. Most BBQ grills are made with this high-strength and corrosion-resistant sheet … including Weber.

I bought the L3218 with the repair kit. ONe problem I have which in Ocxtober is I can’t get a high enough temperature to cook adequately. The highest temperature that I can get is about 250 degrees F.
Any ideas or suggestions? The grill worked fine during the first 4-5 months and was consistently getting temperatures in excess of 400 degrees.

(4) James Kannard says:

I bought one of these grills and was never informed of the recall. Two weekends ago, my grill caught on fire because the hose came in contact with the firebox, melted the hose, and caused a fire. The entire right side of the grill is ruined and can no longer be used.
