Recall Alert: Cook's Outdoor BBQ Grill from JCPenny

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and JCPenny have announced a recall of the Cook's Brand Outdoor BBQ Grill. Insufficient drainage of the drip pan can causing fires and burn related injuries (11 fires have been reported). Owners of the approximately 5,600 units through JCPenny stores and online between February and September of 2009 are urged to discontinue use of this grill. Look for a lot number 780-2176 printed on the underside of the grill stand to identify this recalled grill.

The recall notification itself seems a little vague. Owners are asked to remove the gas hose and regulator and return this to the customer service desk at any JCPenny store for a full refund. The notice doesn't say that this is a complete refund for the grill (sold for anywhere between $200 and $600), so I called JCPenny and this grill is being completely recalled. If you have your receipt or used your JCPenny charge card they will refund you the amount you paid. If you do not have a receipt and can not prove how much you paid it appears that they will be giving you the lowest price that this grill sold for. So if you paid more than $190 and can't prove it, it looks like you are going to be out of luck.

You can find more information about this recall at the CPSC website or by calling the JCPenny recall hotline at (888) 333-6063.
