By , About.com Guide   November 18, 2009

Follow me on:

The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Health Canada have announced a voluntary recall of Perfect Flame SLG Series Gas Grills sold through Lowes Home Improvement Stores between September 2005 and May 2009. This recall affects about 665,000 Gas Grills manufactured by L G Sourcing, Inc of China and imported by Lucas Innovation, Inc of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina.

Burners in these grills can deteriorate causing irregular flames and in some models the metal lids can catch fire, causing a serious metal fire. If you own this grill you are asked to immediately discontinue use until you can receive replacement parts for your grill. Call (888) 840-9590 or visit www.lowes.com for information on how you can get the parts needed to repair your grill.

Check your grill for the specific model number. Model numbers are printed on a label on the inside or backside of the grill. Models SLG2006B, SLG2006BN, SLG2006C, SLG2006CN, SLG2007D, and SLG2007DN will need complete replacement of the burner assemblies. Models SLG2007A, SLG2007B, SLG2007BN, and SLG2008A will need the burner assembly and lid replaced.

Please take this and all recalls seriously. Several people have been injured in relation to these grills. You can find more information on this recall at the Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

Model # SGL2007B Gas Grill,i bought this at lowes 14 months ago and all 4 burners cracked and crumbled and blew flames from all around them and ignited the inside of the grill.Upon looking for the burner parts i found a recall for the burners and lid. When i went to lowes to order the parts, they never informed me there was a recall on my unit or the danger it may cause.Im sorry but you would think that thats something that the consumer should be aware of,even when you fill out the forms you get with your unit, they still should send you a recall.

Same here with SLG2006C, went to Lowes 2 years later for the bracket and new burners, they told me it is no longer being sold by Lowe’s.

this recall should include everything inside the burner compartment, like the heat plates if the something happens to burners it would effect the heat plates too. a chain reaction

What did Lowes do for you? Did they refund your money, replace you grill, replace the defective parts or tell you to take your issue up with L G Sourcing?

I bought one of the recalled grills in the Fall of 2007 – and it ran fin, and I was religous about cleaning it all the time. Move forward to 2010 and I get ready to grill this summer, fresh tank on and cleaned grill…. I turned it on to heat it up and when I came back in
about 5 minutes the grill inside was on fire and so hot that the flames were coming out of the sides. I opened from a distance using a long stick but the flames still shot out and singed my hair, arms, face and eyebrows – and remained on fire until I put it out with a fire extinguisher and baking soda. I was worried about the gas getting ignited because the heat was incredible.
Did a consumers report check today and just found out about the recall, so I’m calling Lowe’s and trying to get a refund.
Had I opened the top normally, I would have been severly burned, if not seriously injured by the flame ball that shot out!!!

I own a Perfect Flame (SLG2008A). Bought in Feb. 2009 for $200. I live in Georgia so I grill ALL THE TIME. I noticed in Nov. 2009 the flame was distributing a little weird (only cooking toward the rear of the grill. Thought I just bought a piece of crap grill as my Father-In Law bought a $500 grill from lowes and it only lasted 2 years. Last used the grill in June and my wife caught the lid on fire cooking burgers. Figured well, it was the wife, she probably really did something wrong for that to happen. Took the my grates and burner covers off today to clean everything out thinking the burners were just covered in stuff and found the burners were broken and crumbling. Was looking for parts on the internet and saw it was going to cost $100 to replace the burners so I figured I would just buy a new grill. Just happened to notice a web site that said 663000 grills recalled… and clicked on it and found out my grill was recalled and I am getting new burners and lid for my grill. I really do like shopping at Lowes but I have a new perspective on their customer care being as I even took out the extended warranty on the grill and they new it was recalled and never contacted me. But at least I don’t have to spend a bunch of money on another grill. Good Luck.

We purchased this grill, the SLG2008A. I found out about the recall in spring 2010 when looking for replacement parts. We got the new parts and installed them. We use our grill often year round. A couple of days ago we were grilling and it broke out in flames. Now remember we already replaced the parts in the recall a year ago. Seems new parts are just as bad!! Beware!!! Now I am awaiting reponse to Lowes about burned out grill.

We had our burners & lid replaced under the recall in April 2010. The Perfect Flame model SLG2007B. We were using our grill on Memorial Day 2011. The lid was closed while cooking our dinner. The next thing we new the grill and the lid was on fire. It may have been recalled but the replacement parts are just as dangerous.

We bought our Perfect Flame SLG2007D in May 2008. It has worked fine until last grilling season. We ended up just not using it until this year. I started grilling on it this year and all of it is crumbling. The grill plates and the burners both. I got online to reorder and found the recall. They are closed tonight, but I will be contacting them tomorrow for the replacement parts. I am with you all though, Lowe’s should have contacted us.

I purchased a Perfect Flame SLG 2007B gas grill. My son-in-law turned on grill to heat and the entire lid and grill became on fire. This grill was close to the house but we were able to get fire out without anyone getting hurt or much damage. This is certainly a very dangerous item for any family. I do not want replacement parts but a refund to purchase a more safe grill. Please advise how I can handle this matter.

(12) Anna says:

My husband and I bought a Perfect Flame grill to replace our old 2 burner Charbroil grill a few years ago (it was still in good working order, just wanted something a little bigger). Model SGL2007A. Big mistake. After a few years the burners are falling apart and the tank storage area has completely rusted out to the point where one of the casters fell off. I had intended to use it after Irene hit while the power was out but didn’t since we have another small grill we use for camping.

I didn’t know about the recall until I started shopping for another grill to replace this one. I will contact Lowes about any recourse, but I’m not going to the trouble to repair it. And of course my receipt is probably long gone.
