I've been talking with a person recently who is having trouble lifting and closing the lid of a standard gas grill. The problem is you have to reach over the grill to grab the handle to close the lid. If you are not tall enough this can be a dangerous proposition. There was a time when some gas grills came with handles on the side of the lid so that it could be opened and closed without reaching directly over the fire.
The more I think about this and the several people in my own family who are under 5 feet tall I think that perhaps some design changes are in order.
So do me a favor, if you've experienced this problem and hit the comment link below and let us know about how you cope with this.

I finally figured out that using my tongs works better than scorching the underside of my arm. Sometimes they slip off the handle if I don’t get the angle right, but for the most part it works pretty well. Since I’m not going to get taller and I refuse to grill standing on a step stool, this is my best solution.
A sales rep pointed out that the roll top hood on a Napoleon grill would keep me from reaching all the over the cooking surface when opening or closing the oven. The way the hood is hinged in the center keeps the handle much lower than a grill hinged at the back of the hood.
