Something New: The Greener Grill Charcoal Basket

Tuesday June 2, 2009
People always seem to be looking for a better way to light charcoal. Any why not? Anyone who uses charcoal has probably had that fire that just wouldn't light. Now days, as more and more people try to get away from lighter fluids, with their pesky pollution and noxious smells (and flavors) there are a number of products on the market to make lighting charcoal quick and easy.

This charcoal chimney is a cardboard container with a combustible center column. Fill it full of charcoal, light the middle and let it go. You are ready to cook in under 20 minutes. Since the basket burns away completely you are left with only ash. This is an easy charcoal lighter for tailgating and camping and is perfect for small cookouts. Best off all it is produced by a non-profit organization who works to provide vocational opportunities for people living with disabilities.

These are small units that hold 2 1/2 pounds of charcoal, so this isn't going to fire up a large grill for a long cookout, but it gets your fire going about as easily as possible. Take a look at their website and you can find out about the organization as well as a link to where you can buy these on eBay.
