The Survey revealed that 85 percent of respondents will be oven-roasting their turkey this year, followed by seven percent who will be grilling or smoking their bird and three percent who will be frying it outdoors.
Interestingly, these alternative cooking methods are most popular among younger cooks with one-quarter of Americans age 25 to 34 responding that they plan to use a method other than oven roasting to cook their turkey this year -- 11 percent will be grilling their turkey, seven percent will be using an outdoor smoker, and three percent will fry it outdoors.
Additionally, over two-thirds (69%) of all households preparing a turkey this year expressed some interest in using an outdoor grill or smoker to prepare their Thanksgiving turkey in the future.
The state of the economy has also had an effect on Americans' holiday plans. Of those whose household is preparing the turkey for Thanksgiving, 43 percent of respondents said that the economic downturn will have an effect on their plans -- with 21 percent saying that they will be preparing less food this year to save money, 12 percent saying they will be preparing food for fewer people and, 10 percent saying they will be sharing their meal with more people.
