Charbroil TEC grill

Sunday July 29, 2007
johnvasi Writes:

"I bought a Charbroil TEC grill about a month ago. The grill is good in some ways and a disappointment in others. In general, the problem is that the advertising on the Charbroil website is misleading. The TEC grill does get hot, and it's been good for searing things that you want to cook fast. The problem is the the grill cover has a very large opening in the back that lets heat escape. Contrary to the video on the Charbroil website with the chef telling you that the grill is good for many types of barbecuing, it is really only good, in my opinion, for searing. I don't know if the large opening is needed because the TEC part produces so much heat, but Charbroil was no help in giving me information on this. The video chef talks about adding wood chips, etc, for smoking, but it doesn't tell you that it's only good for fast-cooking items.

Slow-cooking a larger cut of meat (I did a pork roast for about 5-6 hours) lets an enormous amount of heat escape from the back of the grill. I asked Charbroil if I could close or partially close that big opening. They said no--it's needed for airflow. The problem is that you don't hear about any of that until you've got the grill at home. Charbroil wrote back to me that the grill is not meant for smoking, but that's not what it says on the Charbroil website.

I did want a grill that achieved high heat for searing. I'm not disappointed in that feature, but I think the promotional material from Charbroil is very misleading. I definitely would have looked for something else that had infrared capability, but could handle other types of grilling/barbecuing better."

We’re trying our new TEC for the 1st time tonight? I’m considering the rotiessere. Does anyone know if it works well?
