IGLOO gas grill

Sunday February 26, 2006
Ceci11 Writes:

"We just purchased a "semi-stainless steel" gas grill made in China and marketed by Igloo at Wal*Mart - it was nearly $400 and in our price range. After putting it all together, we found that as soon as we turn the gas down to low, the burners blow out...does anyone know why this would happen or if there is any way to fix the problem? I realize at some point, you get what you pay for, but if we can't cook on low - this puppy is going back from whence it came!! Thanks!"

When you have burners blow out, when the gas is turned down low, you have too much air circulation. This is either caused by the rapid decrease in heat and cooler air rushing toward the warm air (see weather reports-high pressure and low pressure); or the ventilation is too great (1)too large of air holes in grill body;(2) gas tubing is not correct size for gas distribution (gas is not filling pipe and air is displacing gas.) You are stuck with it, that is why the best BBQ cooks still use wood and charcoal. Gas is very quick and is a general purpose cooking tool at Walmart prices. You can look online for the commercial grade units- $2-3,000.

I had the same experience. Same Igloo brand, sold by same Walmart. I would not stay lit on any other setting than high. (We did not put screens on the burner tubes, it wasn’t part of the assembly kit, not was it indicated in the assembly instructions). Maybe a Weber or Charboil would have worked better (and replacement burners are available), but charcoal and wood are looking much more appealing.

I’ve had the same experience with this grill concerning the blowout of the burners on low. Also, the SS housing is starting to get that orange glow to it due to rusting, even with a full cover and not being out in the rain! Another complaint is the flimsy plastic handle for the rotiserie. Igloo and Wal Mart should be proud to market this piece of soon to bet recycled junk! Get your money back!

I have the same problems with mine. My solution if you can take it back, Do So Immediately. This is not a grill I would recommend. I should have gone with my gut feeling, Igloo Grill sold by Wal-Mart, whats wrong with it. Now I know

(8) Brent says:

My grill caught on fire and nearly burn the house down. We think the problem was from a faulty line but not for certain. We know for certain it was not in the tank coupling connector. Be careful.

I have the same problem: No control at low settings. What good are screens? If they will help the problem, where do I find them?

Our Igloo gas grill from Wal-Mart caught on fire yesterday. My daughter had turned up all four burners to burn off the crud. I didn’t see it happen, but the result is a severed burned hose midway between the grill and the diaphram. She thinks that the hose connection is located too close to the heat source.

I too have a problem with the burns blowing out when it is windy, but have noticed to use two burns side by side to cook on instead. If you are cooking on all four than you would want to turn the heat up to get the cooking done.

The complaints I see are legitament. After a cookout I turned the burners on high to clean the grates per the instructions. It caught on fire warped the catch pan ( can’t get it all the way out to clean) and broke the thermometer. After 3years of use it is rusting appart. The cast brass burners are being eat through on the bottom. Low temp cooking is a problem when the burners PUFF out

Our grill has all the problems listed above. The fire was the last straw. Put it in the yard and bought a new one…..Char-Broil. I cannot even find a website for this grill.

I have the Igloo stainless steel grill w/brass burners too. although I will be replacing the burners shortly w/ stainless steel burners of the same length. I leave mine out all year long & apart from some discoloration on the sides of the hood, the rest still looks great. No rust at all.
