Amana Grill at target
"Does anyone here know about the stainless gas grill that Target is selling under the Amana name? I was wondering if anyone had any bad or good news about it. It wis really cheap for all that it comes with, and seems like a good grill even if it only last about 5 years under normal wear and tare. Let me know if you have heard anything at all on this grill."

Comments
The Amana website doesn’t list it. I bought one so far really love it.
I just looked at that grill at Target yesterday. The stainless steel used is the inferior 400 series which is much more prone to rust, staining and deterioration. Better stainless steel grills use 304 stainless steel. You can tell which is which by using a magnet – the magnet will stick to the cheaper stuff.
Therefore, make sure to keep it covered at all times except when in use.
Just bought one… it seems similar to the all stainless Thermos bbq that target sells as well, for $100 more… it looks better, though… I’ll let you know…
Purchased the grill last week. Great price. So far great quality and easy to set up. And agree that it should be kept covered when not in use.
Cheers
Does anyone know if the Amana allows for naturals gas conversion?
Thanks,
Dan
Dispite some negative review, I bought one this weekend on sale + 10% for opening a target account $464. OTD. I used it tonight for the first cook; I might mention my first Gas Grill cook; and I think it’s great. I cooked skinless chicken with garlic salt, lemon pepper and a little tabasco and I declare this machine will make any white man look like he can barbeque.
Deos anyone know where I can purchase a cover for this grill?
I bought one 2 weeks ago. It cooks great and does have high heat as described. My response to one comment,,,the magnet does stick to it. The Cooking grids are made of a better quality of stainless and the external hood is made of the best stainless. So the grill as a whole will require more attention to environmental care to keep it in top condition. The bottom of the grill will require constant cleaning or maybe a layer of aluminum foil to help it stand up to the grease, salt and seasonings you use for your cooking.
As to a cover, almost any store, especialy Home Depot and Lowes, have the covers, just measure your grill dimensions.
I purchased a cover for my grill at Target. It was 29.99 and it was the largest cover available. Sorry, I threw the carton away and I don’t have the name brand to give you but the cover fits the large Amana grill I purchased.
As for the grill, it works great!
they are on closeout right now at target–bought mine for $250. Can’t beat that!
I just picked one up for $208.00 last one and it was assembled I plan to try it out this weekend It looked like it had everything I was looking for and for that price I figured how could I go wrong…..
We bought the Amana 5-burner Gas Grill with Rear Burner Reg. price $549.00 for $134.98 today. I plan on taking it out of the box and assembling it tomorrow.
I got the 5 burner also at 75% off and it is the bomb. I love it…
I purchased the Amana grill from Target last week for $97 on clearance I didn’t even feel like spending that much on it since I have a Charcoal grill with a smoker box attached to it. I have never cooked on a gas grill but this this thing looks like its going to be fun to
cook on.
Does this grill have wheels?
We purchased the grill at Target already assembled. It works fine, but noticed the back has a large opening all the way across–a slit about 6 inches wide (on the cover) Is this normal or when you close the grill lid–should the entire back be enclosed?
The-Cover-Store.com is where I just purchased my cover for $29.99 plus shipping. They have many sizes at this sight.
Does anyone have an instruction book? Ours was also on clearance but lacked the book. If you have one, we can work out a way to email it. Many thanks!
WHERE DO YOU GET A 5 BURNER GRILL AT 75% OFF?
We have the 5 burner from Target, purchased for around $300 on clearence which I thought was a great deal. I was sadly mistaken. We haven’t even had it 7 months and it’s already started to rust & now 2 of the 5 burners don’t work & the igniter isn’t working either, have to use a lighter to start it. Piece of crap. Do not recommend it to anyone.
Don’t even consider it – purchased a 4 burner Amana grill from Target and within 4 months it was already rusting – have had the complete run around by Sureheat and are totally fed up with their lack of customer service and still waiting for a resolution. BEWARE I agree totally with the comment above -A PIECE OF CRAP.
I’ve owned the 5 burner version for a year now and I am not very pleased. So far the caster wheels fell off, had to replace ingnitors, (second time right now) and have to keep the grill floor covered with foil. I would not recomend this one at all. I am in the market for a new one already. Anyone want to buy a grill?
What is the chain inside the door for?
WE GOT ONE IN OCTOBER OF 06, SO IT WAS NOT USED MUCH OF THE WINTER, BUT YESTERDAY AFTER BEING USED LESS THAN A DOZEN TIMES IT EXPLODED AND BURNED OUR PORCH. NOT RECOMMENDED
Bought the 4 burner one last week on sale for $299. Doesn’t have the bracket to hold the rotisserie motor. Says you have to buy the rotisserie seperately but can’t find one to fit and you can’t get info from Amana or Sure Heat. So far, it does a good job.
Anyone know where to find the bracket or the rotisserie kit?
Just bought a Amana SS5 Burner Grill w/rear burner at Target for $349.00…thought it was great…but comments have me alarmed, especially about the one that blew-up. I thought that Amana had a better name than that…I’ll let you know…we light up this weekend…maybe in the middle of the yard at first.
Geesh! I wish I had known about these comments before I purchased one for my husband–especially about the one blowing up because my husband is new to the whole gas grill thing. I haven’t tried the magnet thing yet, but will be doing so.
I also thought Amana was a great brand, I have other Amana appliances and like them very well. I had no idea that some company named Sureheat was manufacturing these for Amana. Was there an indication of that somewhere and I missed it?
So far we like the grill, especially for the price. Like previous comments though, I am now worried too as to whether something will go wrong with it or how long it will last.
- through -Target has a sale.. … none available… terrible marketing… and what I see a terrible product. Thanks for saving me $$$ and fire insurance!
Wow!!!Looked at some yesterday—-too much negative feedback and most important was the safety issue. Who would want one that could blow up?
This should get reported publicly
Doris July 29
This grill has given me greef by the third tank of propane…when you light up the grill the burners light up properly then the fuel cuts back to almost nothing…I think it is the regulator….dang!
Got one for my wedding and so far I love it! Keep in mind that this is a piece of equipment that sits out in the weather. If you keep it clean and covered, you should have very little problems. I am a little dissapointed to find out that Sure Heat is not standing behind there product, unless you never regestered your grill. The quality of my 4 burner grill I have appeares to be constructed very well.
I purchased my Amana grill(it was the better one with s.s. lid-magnet does not stick) on Target on clearance last year. We use this grill almost everyday. It is the best grill ever! We have had no problems and the infrared/rotisserie is wonderful-definitely buy. It is rusting a little by the doors, but not big deal. The ignitors work wonderfully. In regards to the grill that blew up maybe it was something else that caused this. Perhaps the propane tank was not fitted on properly or something came loose like a valve, faulty coupler or split 0-ring. My husband said that our propane tank had something wrong with it and it could have blew up – luckily he fixed it in time. We love this grill!
Nobody so far has mentioned what a pain in the A$$ this thing is to put together. It has about 4000 parts and takes a long time to build. After all that hard work, I connected my old gas tank and when I open the valve there was a hissing noise and propane smell. Couldn’t solve it so tried a brand new tank. This one didn’t hiss, but with the valve open the burners aren’t getting any gas. Called SureHeat and they suggested disconnecting the gas, waiting 5 mins, reconnecting and opening valve slowly. This didn’t work. Not sure what’s going on???
Well, I solved my own problem. Just disconnected the gas lines where they connect to the side burner control valve, and then reconnected them and tightened them, hard. Tried the new gas tank and it works perfectly. One additional comment on this; in trying to troubleshoot I called SureHeat and they gave me some story about needing a 20lb. tank vs. a 17lb. tank. This is complete BS. The 17lb. tank is standard; nobody that carries propane has ever heard of a 20lb. tank.
The side burner worked for a entire day and hasn’t worked since. It gets gas and the spark worked for 3 whole days, but no longer works.
Unless you can buy it really cheap, I wouldn’t buy one.
Target should be ashamed of themselves for selling a piece of crap. It was given to me by my son for fathers day 2 years ago. uneven heating, the burners are rusted out, the igniter doesn’t work, one wheel fell off. Never again will I own anything but a Weber. I’ve been given the run around at Sureheat for the parts to this thing for the last 3 months
Thanks for all the comments, everyone! We have our Amana grill sitting here in the box, unopened from Target, but now it looks like we might return it. We wish we had read these comments sooner.
Bought the 4-burner with griddle this week and yes, it’s a bear to put together. I haven’t cussed that much in years! That said, it grilled like a dream tonight–everything seems to work well–made flank steak, grilled baby zucchini and roasted red potatoes. Fantastic. I appreciate everyones comments, and will take care to keep it covered etc. I found it to be very sturdy–maybe I’m just used to cheaper grills! Would love to have a Weber but this one was within my budget.
I bought the 4 burner over a year ago. Most
of the time it works okay, however, the burners recently would not light even with a
full propane tank. I think it could be the
regulator. Also, on a few occassions, the burners would light but could only get low
heat…not med. or high. I liked the grill
at first, but now started to wonder about the
quality.
I purchased the “Amana” AM33LP model back in March and have been trying to get a rotisserie for it ever since. I keep getting the run-around from Sure-Heat. I’ve called them 3 times and each time they tell me the rotisserie will be in the Target stores in a few weeks. I’m dealing now with Target customer service but haven’t had any luck with them either.
I bought an Amana grill from Target the summer of 2006. This week virtually all the rivets that held the gas nozzles in place failed. There is no repair. I would not buy this brand again.
Well my husband has second degree burns to his face and right arm after our Amana 4 burner gas grill from Target blew out a fire ball around the valve near the tank. So my suggestion is to not buy or use one of these grills.
Just bought the Amana 4-burner grill AM33LP-P for $209 + tax. I love the way this grill looks and the side burner with griddle. I can’t wait till the weekend to put it together. I hope I have better luck with this grill then some of the negative posts.
I have learned the hard way that you can not replace the regulator. They are made in China, and are metric fittings. I have not found anyone that can get me a replacement. Let folks know if you know where to find a regulator….
My husband and I just bought the AMANA 4 BURNER GAS GRILL W/REAR BURNER AND GRIDDLE AM33LP-P today at Target. It took about 3 hours to put it together. By the time it was together it was to late to grill, we will grill tomorrow. We started around 6pm, he didn’t think it would take that long to put together. He did say it was a lot of work but he doesn’t mind putting time into something as long as it is going to be worth it. Our 3 year old grill from Sears we brought to our camper to stay there, that one took about 2 hours. We cover ours and it stays out all year on our deck. I can deal with a little rusting but the negative feedback of these grills blowing up has me a little worried. He is careful when it comes to gas or charcoal grills. Does it have to be an Amana rostisserie, won’t any other rostisseries work? I wish I had read this first, we love our grill for Sears. The wheel fell out in transit to our camper so we put it back on. The grill is in one place where we want it and no problem with the wheel.
Terri & Ron –
I just purchased the AM33LP-P grill this morning at Target. I just called Sure Heat to find out about ordering the rotisserie unit for it and I was told that it comes with the grill. Did your grill come with one? It looks like such a nice grill, just hope it works as good as it looks.
Just bought this for the $209 at Target as well and was surprised to see all the neg reviews on it when I got home to check into it. Seems like it is well built and has a lot of excellent features for the price. I am not too concerned about blowing anything up, as I am a licensed gas fitter by trade am actually going to convert it to natural gas (everything is available, you just have to know where to look). As for the rotisserie I haven’t unpacked it yet so I don’t know for sure if it is included or not. Hopefully it is, if not I will fabricate one and make it work. So far I think it is a good deal…I will come back and let u know if I find out otherwise after I get it together.
PIECE OF JUNK!
If you get this far in the reviews there may be no hope of warning you off. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL.
thanks i was about to go and get one this morning,el varato sali mas caro.
WOW,lots of interesting comments on these grills. I’ve had my 5 burner amana for two years, yes 3-4 hours to assemble. But no gril I’ve ever used has better temp control. Stagger burners on/off and use top rack for great slow cookin. It’s lower grade S.S. metal does stain and can corrode, keep it clean an it will last. Best grill for the money (got mine for 200).
We just received ours for a gift. It sounds like the persons who had to put theirs together didn’t do it right. I have talked to target and there is no recall for blowing up. We have had grills before. All grills take forever to put together and you need to take care by cleaning and covering it. This is an outdoor piece of equipment and is exposed to the elimantes. If you want perfection it doesn’t cost 200.00 on a clearance rack at target.
just got the AM33LP-P 4 burner for my birthday it was the last one on display. No user manuel!! Does anyone have one??
I have had the 4 burner Amana grill, from Target, for 2 summers and I have had nothing but trouble with it. Many of the same problems that are listed on this site. Low gas pressure to the burners can be solved by turning everything off and then disconnecting the tank and letting the grill sit for a minute or two, then reconnect the tank and turn the tank valve on, then turn the burners on and light. Grills with this problem will not light properly if you turn the burners on before the tank is turned on. The problem that made me give up is that the heavy burner control knobs are lined with a cheap piece of plastic that fails in time, 3 of the 4 knobs on my grill have failed. for those of you that love this grill, have fun turning it on with a pliers. I have gone back to my 20 year old Weber (made in the USA).
We just purchased the Amana Grill with four burners and the infared on the back. It was a pain in the butt to put together even though the box says minor assembly. But once together it seemed to bbq great. The infared seems like a waste without the rotisary, which was not included. The directions don’t tell you what you use the infared for. We just retired our Weber which was great, but expensive and small. I hope we can get at least two to three years from this grill and don’t have all the problems we have read about from other people. Has anyone used the gridle? How does it work?
just got mine yesterday for 75% off at the downtown Houston target. 4 burner with side burner and infrared…$106 after tax. If I get a year of good use out of this I will be happy. So far it works wonderfully. I dont think I would pay much more than I did, but for the money it is fantastic.
We recently purchased the Amana grill on clearance at Target for $161. It took 3+ hours of 2 people putting it together to get it to work. The thing never even got to 300 degrees. The flames seem to be constricted or something. We put a new tank on and that did not even help. Can you take this thing back to Target with a receipt for a refund?
This thing is HORRIBLE. Do not recommend buying this grill. I will stick to the $129 grill from Wal-Mart. At least maybe we won’t blow up.
I just bought the Amana 3 burner gas grill today, apparently it took me almost 4 hours to assemble the whole thing…as oppose to 1 hour…(according to instruction manual)! The hardest part is the installation of the gas line…other than that, it was pretty easy. I’m a petite asian woman, so if I can do it..so can you! lol…
-Grill was on clearance at Target in Vallejo CA for $160 (regular price was $229)
-Grill +(2)Propane tank + grill cover = $240 (before taxes)
not bad right?! hopefully it works! (I haven’t done the exchange of propane tank at home depot yet, we’ll give it a shot tomorrow, they say it’s about $19.99 for the exchange..not that cheap)
I really like the way it looks, a combination of stainless and black finish…LET ME KNOW HOW YOURS WORKS!!!
HAPPY BARBEQUING!!!
We just purchased the floor model of the Amana (AM33LP-P) and there were no instructions, we hooked up the gas to it, and it didn’t light… any suggestions? Assuming the assembly is improper… the igniter switch is missing….. and do we need the infrared ignighter is funny too…. maybe we got a lemon… but want to try and reassemble it if you have any suggestions
Thanks
Just picked one up on clearance for $114. It is the 4 burner, black. Nice grill. Will let cha know how it cooks, but I assume better then the charcoal grill I had!
The Target in Long Beach on Bellflower just reduced the grill to $58.00
I work at Target. Got my dad a 3 burner on clearance for $70. Seems to working fine. It was a display, pre-assembled.
Yeah, if I was going to drop $400+ on a grill, I’d do my research first. Chances are, if they’re able to drop the price that much, it was cheaply made. Rusting is something you should worry about with any metal object you leave outside ALL YEAR ROUND. Heck, even if you keep such objects near a window or door, you have a chance of it rusting. So research preventative measures. FYI, there’s a substance that turns rust into primer, if it does end up rusting.
As far as explosions go, a design of a grill isn’t really going to come into play. Chances are it’s just a bad connection or a faulty tank. If you buy a pre-assembled model like I did, you may want to check to make sure the hose and connectors weren’t damaged. I think the chances of this happening are slim though. Either way, you should always be wary of highly flammable, compressed gases. I always keep away from a tank as much as possible while messing with it and try to look in it’s direction if I don’t need to. Stuff happens.
I purchased the Target Amana 4 burner + infrared last fall. Took about 1.5 hrs. to assemble. Seems fairly sturdy. I have used it several times and it cooks great. Temp gets to over 400 deg. with just 2 burners on. I purchased a large cover at the same time and keep it in a heated garage all year round so hope rust won’t be a problem. I also purchased a Thermos universal rotisserie to use with the infrared burner. The salesman said it would work with this grill, but I’ll be darned if I can see how. I have tried every combination with the brackets and there just aren’t any attachments to the grill. Does anyone have one of these and know some trick that I don’t? There were no instructions with the rotiss and Thermos CS was NO help at all. Thanks!
does anyone know where to get parts for the am-33 gas grill
I’ve had mine about teo years, and kept it covered when not in use and the burners have rusted through. It was great when new but won’t last long.
We have had our grill AM30 for almost 3 years. It was cheap and has worked well. We have a conversion kit to change it to nat. gas but it didn’t last long enough. The 2-cell burner replacement part is $149. It isn’t worth fixing, something else will soon wear out. We can still use one side! We would probably buy another if they were available and use it for parts.
Piece of crap!
my 4 burner lights fine, but soon after it just shuts down. i’ve used it maybe 5 times.
I purchased the 5 Burner Model in May 2006 and while I was happy with its overall performance, by last summer the entire inside had rusted out, the stainless stell burners deterriated and the igniters rivets broke. I would not recommend this grill to anyone. To repair it one has to essentially rebuild the interior and relpace all of the component parts. What seemed like a good deal when I bought it has turned out to be a major disappointment. By the way, the grill was always covered and protected from the weather.
Just bought a 3 burner model on clearence at Target for 89.98 (cheaper than rebbuilding my 10 yr. old Kenmore). First, I would like to say to those who are concerned about the one that blew up. I wouldn’t worry to much. I’m a fireman, and every grill fire my department has investigate has been caused by either poor maintenance, or poor assembly. In any case, the grill is ok. The steel is very thin, and the burners are affected by the slightest breeze. Mine has the cast iron burners, and some of the porcelain coating is was peeling right out of the box. I will call Amana on Monday to try and get a new grate. I expect it to last no more than 3 to 5 years, but for the price that will be fine. Took about an hour to assemble.
I have had this grill LESS than 2 years and it is a RUST BUCKET ALREADY…. it looks so bad my wife doesnt want to eat any food cooked from it. The grill did look nice when we purchased it, we did use a cover with it and it was even under a back porch. I am VERY dissatisfied with this grill and feel like it was a waste of money, and I’m going to get a new grill within a few weeks. I will have a magnet in hand next time I buy a grill. I am ready to push the AMANA grill in the closest RIVER!!!! looking at a Char-Broil
Commercial Series Gas Grill
Item #: 66829 Model: 463247209 to replace the rust bomb
Purchased an Amana AM30 4-burner SS grill about 3 years ago. The regulator assembly went bad and supposedly only Sure Heat had replacement part. Went to 6 different stores locally (including Target where it was bought) but could not find the same part.
Called the manufactrer (in Georgia and on hold for 23 minutes) and the cost was reasonable but the shipping/handling was almost as much as the part. I considered buying another small grill and not spend so much money on the old one.
Found the regulator assembly today at Tru Value Hardware for the same price as the manufacturer (and no shipping/handling charges). Will install and probably BBQ tomorrow evening.
We bought our Amana grill in June of ‘07 and one of the knobs just fell off last week. So far we have had no problems with the grill except the burners are almost rusted through! We have kept it covered but I wish I had read all these comments before we bought it, we may have chosen a different brand because now I’m wondering how hard it’s going to be to find a new knob. Shucks!!
I purchased one about 3 yrs ago for 275.00 and were going to grill a couple of nights ago and I couldn’t get it to light and upon further inspection everything inside that holds the burner the igniter to the back of the grill had rusted. Ive always had a cover on it and some spots on the outside have rusted,I don’t know if you will get better use if you house it in the garage and bring it out when you grill and then put it back away
I bought a $125 Thermos from Home Depot 6 years ago, assembled it quickly, used it 100s of times and never had a problem. But it was done, so yesterday I bought a 3 burner Amana from Target. To give you a hint re difficulty of assembly, the UNPACKING instructions run to SIXTEEN points, REQUIRE TOOLS and TWO PEOPLE! Then you start assembling! Ignitor does not work! Annoying. My cheap Thermos ignitor still works. I bought the rotisserie from Target for $30 at the same time. Installed very easily, works great.
Purchased a 5-burner AM33 from target in 07…burners are shot. Crossover tube disintegrated. I’ll be trying to find replacements. Found a site while checking out the problems with the Costco sureheat version.Try http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com. Plug in Amana and it’ll give you a complete list. I hope the replacements (not cheap)are better than the OEM. Happy Grilling.
I bought an Amana propane 4 burner grill from Target. I want to convert it to natural gas. No one at Target can tell me how to convert it nor can they convert the grill. They don’t even have the parts. Can anybody help me with this matter? Your assistance is highly appreciated. Thank you inadvance.
The grills have all rusted. The drawers inside and where then tank go all have rust!
The stainless steel does not clean very well. Cheap is cheap and that is what you get for anything longterm!
this may sound dumb, do you have to use those gas grill charcoals in this grill???
Bought the Amana 26LP at Target. Nothing short of the Space Shuttle should be this big a pain in the ass to assemble. I haven’t used it and I hate it already! The directions are ambiguos and unconcise. Anything that starts out that bad can’t be good.
Bought it for $75 and the regulator died too
don’t buy this even it is dirt cheap! This grill blew caught fire and blew up almost killing me and came close to burning my house down starting with the outside.
My regulator leaks around the perimeter of the regulator body. cheap chinese unit pressed together. whole seam leaks. Fills cabinet wit propane when tank valve is open. also the reason for shitty flame. SPRAY LIQUID SOAPY WATER AT REGULATOR WITH TANK VALVE OPENN AND BURNERS OFF if you see bubbles, you got troubles. Sorry to hear about the lousy customer service. wil embark on my regulator replacement voyage tomorrow
I would not recommend this grill to anyone. I purchased the 5 burner AM33 at target I have owned it for 3 years and paid well over $500.00 for it. It has rusted out inside. I clean it regulary and bring it inside in the winter and keep it covered when not it use. The metal inside in very cheap and this is not the grill for long term use. Get you a Weber grill
JUNK! I have the 5-burner one which was a little more money and used it about 2 dozen times at MOST and keep it in the garage between uses so it’s never in the weather. JUNK! The burners don’t work anymore and all I get is about 1/3 the fuel to 3 burners and the other two don’t work. If I try to run all five at once they starve for fuel and go out. JUNK Another product from CHINA that the AMERICAN CONSUMER didn’t need. Biggest WASTE of my hard earner money and I can’t get help anywhere with it. Not worth the steel it was made from!
Have had my Amana for 4 + years with no troubles. The igniters have rusted out over the past winter so now I light it with a match. I need to find a parts replacement list.
Our AMANA stainless steel gas grille was trouble free for one year. now we cannot get the gas to feed through and, after calling AMANA and following their troubleshooting suggestions, we still can’t get it to work. it looks great but so what? We are trying to decide if it’s worth the price of repair which includes having someone come in.
I bought the grill and am not particularly impressed or disappointed so far. Home Depot has some better deals right at the moment but they came on sale after I made the purchase.
DO NOT PURCHASE THE TARGET GRILL COVER. The Amana grill has some sharp edges that you will want to file down and the Target grill cover is made of the same material as their plastic grocery bags basically. Worst cover on the market and they charge $30 for the stupid thing. Mine ripped first time putting it on and I took it back.
The grill uses fat metal grates which I am coming to loathe. Difficult to clean. It had some rust spots when I got the thing out of the box. Hardware is cheap and it doesn’t cook real evenly. It does not have any hangers for spatula, tongs, etc. which is sort of annoying. No handle for pulling either.
On the plus side it is solidly built (albeit using cheap steel). It also looks very nice. And for the price the quality really isn’t much to complain about.
Okay grill but I think I could have done better. And I am in the process of ordering my third grill cover because I can’t find anything to work well on this thing. Make sure you get something cloth lined or oversized because a tight plastic grill cover is no match for the razor sharp corners on this grill.
Couple other things I forgot. The thing is tough to assemble because some of their models have numerous typos in the instructions. Mine went together and had everything but the screw threads and lengths did not match the instructions, which caused me to waste a bunch of time scrambling. The grill also needs to run on high for a good 30 minutes before the burners work. I was very worried at first but once you get the thing going for a while it will cook pretty well.
The grill does not get very hot because it is over vented. However most grilling is done at lower heat which it will do fairly well, though you waste some gas keeping it at heat with those huge vents.
I don’t know. For the money it is an okay grill but I wouldn’t get it if I had it to do over.
I purchased the Amana 5 burner grill last spring and it worked very well for a year. This past July the burners seemed to die and i cannot get the heat over 150 degrees. I bought a new regulator but that did not work. It appears that I will be in the market for a new grill after only 1 year! Will never buy another Amana grill.
I might be able to throw a little light on the whole ‘exploding’ issue, and what I think might be the cause.
I bought mine about a week ago and put it all together, manual typos and all. I read that part about ‘checking for leaks’, and almost ignored it but something about the way I had to really pull on a part to install it properly made me think otherwise.
GLAD I DID! Sure enough, there were several leaks right around the silver hose that conects the regulator to the main burner assembly. (My model is the AM26LP-P, 3 burner with side burner).
I called Sureheat (the makers of this grill) and as soon as I mentioned the ’silver hose’, the guy on the phone knew EXACTLY what my problem was. It seems many of these were shipped with the wrong hose length (Note: this is part of the preassembled top portion). My guess is that since they make two versions, those with and without side burners, they neglected to check when they packaged them all up.
He’s sending a longer hose (by about 4 inches i’m told). My concern at this point will be seeing if I can replace that hose myself, it’s in a real tricky area to get to, and since it was pre-assembled, I have no idea if they used any sort of sealer or cement to hold it in place.
My belief is that those grills which were blowing up or having issues, likely are the same batch that I received with the wrong length hose and the installer neglected to check for leaks after installation. (The hose btw DOES connect and fit, but it’s stretched so far that the connection is not tight enough).
I’ll try to remember to post back once I get my new hose and let everyone know how it went.
OHH and I spoke to the manager of the Target near me the next day, he was very thankful and surprised that a recall wasn’t done. Both of their display models had the wrong hose and once I showed it to him, he agreed it’s a fire hazard.
Hello. I purchased one just before Memorial Day. It exploded in my daughters face the first time we fired it up. Neither Target, Amana, or their insurance co. will take responsibility.
Still awaiting my part.. It’s been over 3 weeks. Sorry to hear about your daughter Patricia, I don’t think Target can be put on the hook, unless they assembled it for you and charged you… however if your daughter was hurt, I’d advise you seek an attorney, they would know if SureHeat (www.sureheat.com or 1-800-229-5647) would be responsible. This grill is NOT made by Amana Kitchen Appliances though their name and logo do appear on it.
Good luck, and I’ll try to update this again once my part arrives.
Total junk. Another lesson learned. You get what you pay for.
Ok Final comment here…
My part arrived, finally, after a month of trying. They claim it was lost in the USPS mail, and I asked for a UPS delivery along with tracking number this time.. they agreed, although I didn’t get the tracking number until after it arrived (delivery took 6 days from UPS, one state away.. hmmm)
Anyway.. I removed the old hose and attempted to put on the new one.. however I had to unassemble some of the pre-assembled burner work in order to tighten and properly attach the new hose, there simply wasn’t a way to tighten it enough without removing the burner assembly.
I tested the unit last night for leaks, and after the 2nd try of attaching the hose and parts, it appears to be leak free. Gas only exits now when the burners are in a non-off position.
It took a while for the unit to light, I had to press the ignite button several times, even had to let the gas dissipate a few times trying to get it to light without blowing up in my face. I attribute this to the fact that it was the ‘first burn’. I let it burn a while… turned it off… waited, and relit things and it went on without a hitch.. I think the manual did say something about letting it burn for 5-10 min on high to get rid of internal oil or something…
Anyway.. I’ve yet to cook on it (That’s tonights project) but from a pure assembly/frustration level, I cannot recommend this grill unless you have a lot of patience, some mechanical skill with wrenches and a screwdriver, and you get a good deal. I got mine for about 1/3 the retail price so I still think it was a good deal since I needed a grill.
Bottom line: Be very careful if you buy this unit, test it for leaks upon assembly (and probably every month or so anyway for safety), and make sure you’re firm with Sureheat to get your replacement hose if needed.

Was the new hose bright silver as well?
@Karen: Yes.. it was identical to the original (Silver metal type) , except about 2-3 inches longer.. it still seemed like it could have used another inch or so , but at least it wasn’t streching.
Discontinued !!!!!!! Because a total pile of Shit as well as those idiots at sure heat , They lost my replacement part order after telling me 3 weeks wait , then sent if for free (thats the nice part ) then I get the valve assembly and it leaks , two weeks later I get the 2nd one and 3 valves leak, then they accidently send another one
(a complete order it must have been the 1st order 2 months late !!! ) and it leaks SH!!!!!, The valves leak in the off position beware. Canwe sue them ???
Our Amana gas grill also blew up, it was only 2 yrs old and used very little. Anyone know about a recall or web site to go to for help? Thanks.
I bought an Amana AM26 about 3 months ago. I got to use it for the first time last night. I started assembling it the day I got it, but the instructions listed parts that didn’t come with it. The wrong size screws and bolts. Oh, and the wheels and pins were missing. So, I call the missing parts number, requested them. I called back two weeks later, requested them again. Then called back two week after that and requested them. Finally, about 2 months after purchasing the POS, I got the wheels. No pins. Should I call them again. I’m not going to wait 2 months for pins. I’ll just get some bolts from Lowes. Right now it’s sitting on blocks to keep it level. I wish I would have found this website before making my purchase. I wish I could return it to Target. I will never buy anything from Amana, or sureheat, again. Cheap piece of crap.
