Natural gas burners or fryers?

"I want to get a natural gas turkey fryer this fall. I've done a lot of net searches and called a few vendors, but no one has any natural gas models (they are all propane or electric). So, I have two questions:

1) Does anyone know of a natural gas stand-alone burner I can use for a turkey fryer?

2) If I have to get a propane burner, can I convert it to natural gas? If so, how?

I read prior posts regarding fryers, and thought perhaps there is new info since last year and the spring."

I’m using 2 turkey burners to boil maple sap into syrup, but was hunting for info on natural gas burners, for next year’s sugar season….

So here is how to convert your standard Turkey fryer from propane to natural gas. This assumes you already have a natural gas pipe with quick attach coupler. I have tried it myself and can testify that it works. I can easily switch my gas line from my natural gas grill and back. No more carrying propane tanks! No more running out of gas at the worst time!

1. cut off the gas hose on the turkey fryer next to the propane regulator. Thow it away.

2. Cut the end of a quick connect hose that come in the gas grill conversion kit available at most hardward store.

3. Use double male end splicers from the plumbing department with hose clamps to connect the two cut ends of hose.

4. This will work as is but is under fueled because the nozzle in set for the higher pressures of propane making the burner under powered. To convert the nozzle, use a 1/16 or 5/64 drill bit and drill out the opening in the nozzle. Start small and work up. The 5/64 is quit a flame.

5. Use the quick connect to attach to your gas line and light.

If I understood you Wyatt, you tossed the regulator and have it direct connected to your natural gas connection, right? Are you using the shut off valve to control the flame?

Why are the Natural Gas Turkey Fryers so expensive to purchase? Why would I not go out and just get a propane fryer and drill it out and make a direct connect? Am I missing something?
Does natural gas ruin the propane burner or something. I think I have heard that you blow burners in your BBQ when you convert. Not sure why though. Help me out folks. Thanks.

The problem with natural over propane is that the natural gas doesn’t have enough pressure to get the flame hot enough. Propane is under pressure and burns much, much hotter.

You look up “gas orfices” online. If you don’t know the Btu/hr rating of your liquified petroleum (LP) unit, find what size yours is with the back of drill bits. Drill out to the size in the nat gas column. Get a Nat gas regulator off a discarded stove. Nat gas is burned at about 5 inches water column (in w.c.) vs 11 for LP. Have a gas rated ball valve threaded to output of regulator.
