Outdoor Kitchen Tips?

Monday July 11, 2005

"Has anyone done a full blown outdoor kitchen? You know, with the sink, refrigerator, maybe a refgrerated beer keg dispenser, dishwasher, warming drawers, fireplace, grill, smoker, whatever? From what I've seen, one is limited only by how much money one wants to spend.

We've been saving towards doing something "special" to the house, and have decided this is it, but don't want to go completely overboard or do things we won't need or use. With our California weather and groups we have here from church, we'll use this space a lot.

I know very well what I want for cooking capability (gas grill, burners, smoker, and wood fired oven, and even have that ordered or sitting waiting) and the basic layout, but don't know what else is essential, nice-to-have, boy-I'd-never-build-one-again-without-that, "nah, never use that", etc.

Right now we have a sink with cold water only and a disposal planned (how much will we wish we had hot water?), a firepit (has to be gas here), some lighting, a small refrigerator, lots of counter and storage space, an arbor over some of the counters, and planning to use umbrellas for shade, but that's about it.

This goes a little beyond strictly grilling and Q, but this is the most knowledgeable forum in this area I can find anywhere. You all are awesome in your knowledge base and willingness to share it."
