Charmglow grills

Saturday December 25, 2004
JOHN4850 Writes:

"I've been looking at a Charmglow stainless steel grill at Home Depot for a few weeks now. It has three cast iron burners and a side grill at a cost of $299.

I can't find any reviews on Charmglow grills. Does anyone have any experience with these grills?"

I too am interested in this grill, so if anyone has information, please let me know. Is it good, great for the money, or not worth buying.

(2) sheila hopkins says:

We just bought one of these a few months ago and just yesterday the ignitor caught on fire and burnt out itself along with ruining the burner dials. I am not sure if it can even be repaired, it was quite scary and i had to put out the fire and then turn off the gas by hand at the valve because the dials wouldnt work after they burned. I am going to the better business bureau on this because it was only used a handful of times and i cleaned it before use each time and there was no excess grease or anything to cause this to happen!

Your local better business organization won’t be able to offer much help on an imported product for a multi-national. Instead, if you feel the product is unsafe, report it to the Consumer Product Safety Council (http://www.cpsc.gov/talk.html). They are the people who create recalls.

I have one that did the same thing. I bought it at Home Depot and will be calling Charmglow on Monday. Hopefully we can get a refund.

I bought one last year. It caught on fire and totally burned all hoses etc. Am still waiting on kit & hoses to be shipped for repair.

(6) Adam says:

I bought this grill, and it works great, very easy to change heat settings, very very easy to clean! i loked everywhere for a nice stainless grill, and this charmglow at homedepot was the best deal out there!!

(7) Marianne says:

I bought my grill at Home Depo and wish I had seen these comments prior to purchasing it, I might have had seconds thoughts. I am hopeful that I do not have the same problem in the future with it catching on fire at the igniter. So far I am pleased with its performance.

May 29, 2006 at 9:43 pm
(8) Adam says:

some charmglows have been recalled, from the regulator, it’s only if yours says GDA on it. if you jusr got yours it’s fine and will not catch fire!! go to this site to see info on that prob!http://www.cpsc.gov/CPSCPUB/PREREL/prhtml05/05266.html don’t worry about the grill it’s a great buy, look around for yourself!!

(9) Wayne says:

I bought mine from HD last fall. It looked great for about a month until all the non- stainless / non-galvanized screws used on the hood started to rust and bleed. Last night I couldn’t shut the grill off all the way without pliers because the D grips on the inside of two of the plastic burner control knobs melted sufficiently from heat conducted up the burner control stem that they could not return the burner control stem back to the off position. What’s the point of a stainless steel grill when the finishing touches are cheap parts that are rusing or melting?

May 30, 2006 at 8:00 am
(10) Wayne says:

That’s “rusting” of course (not “rusing”).
I will say that the igniter has worked flawlessly, better than on any grill I have previously owned.

May 30, 2006 at 10:40 pm
(11) Angel Ivo says:

Hello.
I believe this will be a great grill, we just bought one tonight and some accessories for it. I’ve been wanting one for almost 2 years now and my husband surprised me with one tonight.
I hope there are no problems with the ignitor on ours, sounds scary.

(12) mike says:

never worked good from the day I bought it. Flame is terrible and won’t cook with enough heat. Changed regulator and tank. Still no good

June 2, 2006 at 10:37 pm
(13) Verla says:

Wow stupid me! I bought a charmglow May 2005. It always got up to 600 degrees on low. I’m bad at keeping receipts and complained to HD. They gave me a new regulator, but now it won’t even stay lit.

June 8, 2006 at 1:30 pm
(14) Mara says:

I bought a charmglow grill a year & a half a go and the igniter went on fire and melted too! I am filing a claim with home depot because I want another grill. We cleaned the grill after each use. Bad product!!!

June 20, 2006 at 10:30 am
(15) Wayne says:

I have been trying since my post 3 weeks ago to contact customer service at Charmglow (Brinkmann) regarding getting new burner control knobs under warranty to replace my melted down original knobs. The customer service number is ALWAYS busy so you can’t get through. Also they did not reply to an email I sent regarding the same issue. Are they that busy with complaints or is their “customer service department” just a sham? Don’t buy this grill or you’ll be on your own when a problem develops. I’m going back to Home Depot today to register my complaint about this product with them.

June 24, 2006 at 4:07 pm
(16) John says:

THANKS ALL FOR THE COMMENTS! I have been using a Sunbeam for the last 15 years and thought it about time I stop rebuilding and get a new grill. I had been looking at the Charmglow but I think I will shy away from them and look at the Ducane and the Weber.
Thanks again all!

June 26, 2006 at 8:12 am
(17) Dave says:

I too just bought one @ HD. and sure enough as soon as I turned it on the lowest setting it shot straight up to 500 degrees. I loaded it up and it went right back to HD. I then went to a Patio & Grill store and bought a really nice Vermont Castings 4 burner grill for $400. Do not buy the Charmglow junk!!!!

I believe the recall is for the model made by nextgrill, $349. How is the one by brinkman, $289?

July 15, 2006 at 4:50 pm
(20) Lisa says:

I have owned a charmglow for 2 years, it has always been covered, and for the past year, kept in our garage, covered. The burners rusted after only one year, the only place to get them is from Brinkmann, who don’t have many items that are actually IN STOCK!! I sent my husband out to buy a new grill, it won’t be a charmglow!!

July 25, 2006 at 4:20 pm
(21) Robin says:

My husband and I bought a Charmglow at H Depot 2 years ago. We had to return the first 2 because they didn’t work properly. This one is stainless steel but it rusts all over on the outside even though we keep it covered. It’s unsightly, but it works. After returning 2 of them, my husband didn’t have the motivation to take this one back due to the appearance.

(22) jgetta823@optonline.net says:

I had purchased my grill from HD as well and have had no problems untill now after 3 years I am having problems getting replacment burners.not really that bad of a grill

August 11, 2006 at 4:54 pm
(23) Doug Albring says:

I to purchased this grill and the only complaint up until now was the fasteners and caster wheels rusting – galvanized steel and not S.S. Yeseterday I replaced the LP tank and screwed the coupling on with the hose vertical – well it melted against the hot drip pan. I should have been more careful.

August 17, 2006 at 2:56 pm
(24) CHAD MEDLEY says:

The only thing i can say is that home depot has worked with me.This is my fith grill i have taken back. All of these grills have had week flames and dont get past 140/150.Trust me i feel your pain.

September 3, 2006 at 9:55 am
(25) Nichelle Puder says:

My husband and I bought a Charmglow yesterday, and from all the negative commnets about the grill, we will be taking it back. We don’t want to take any chances.

September 13, 2006 at 3:33 pm
(26) Toby K. says:

I bought in April and it is a 6 burner. It burns very hot and I usually overcook or burn the food. There seems to be no happy medium. The parts in this grill get red hot. I spoke to Charmglow and they wasnt to investigate these issues. So there is no quick resolution. I am out $549.00 plus tax. I should have stuck with Ducane or a Weber!

October 27, 2006 at 11:47 pm
(27) Chau Tran says:

Thank you all for your comments! I’ve been looking at Weber, but saw these Charmglows at such a great price. I’m glad I looked for reviews. You all have saved me a lot of time and fustration. Thanks again.

(28) linda b says:

I didn’t see any reviews on this product on Consumer Guides. Really glad I found this site before buying one. Guess I will keep looking, thank you.

December 2, 2006 at 12:02 pm
(29) Bill says:

I bought one in 2004 and it save me during the huricanes – no power but shortly after I started having problems lighting it. Finally had to goto manual and now all the burners need to be replaced. Just looking to see how much all theses parts will cost. I think I would up grade for reliable/long term next time.

January 14, 2007 at 1:20 am
(30) Patrick says:

I guess most of the people here have complaints. I wanted to replace the grates, since I’ve had my Charmglow for 2 years and use it a lot, 4-5 times a week! I haven’t had any of the problems stated here, other than some rust on the doors…and that was because I used a cheap cover. The cover ended up disintegrating. I received the grill as a gift and it still works nicely despite my abuse!
The Charmglow doesn’t get really hot. I have a Weber I use to grill steaks. The Charmglow has hot and cool spots…you have to monitor your food carefully or you can ruin it. I use it for chicken, burgers, brats, and veggies. It is great for parties, it has a lot of room. The Webers are better grills, but you will pay. The Charmglow does a decent job for the price.

(31) Dean says:

Has anyone had any luck getting HomeDepot to go good on this grill? Mine is kept under cover ALL the time and is rotting away after 2 years. Never had the ignitor probs (thankfully)

March 11, 2007 at 6:14 pm
(32) Ken says:

We started having problems after two years. Today I went to homedepot and they had tons of new charmglow units but no spare parts. They did have every accessory item imaginable but not the burners I needed. The problem we have been having is the burners have rusted away to nothing. I am a furnace technician and I never see burners rot out in only two years. The condition these are in would take 20+ years on a natural gas furnace. The burners had come apart and when the unit fired up the back of the grill would get red hot. I sometimes grill at night because of my schedule and it was on one of these occasions that I noticed the metal turning red. The next day I looked inside and found the burner had split in half at the top, so the bottom was like a trough. The other burners had started to collapse but nothing like the center one. I went to home depot and they don’t carry the replacements. the person said they don’t even have part numbers for them in there parts catalog so it cant be ordered through HD. Don’t buy this product.

March 20, 2007 at 1:04 pm
(33) Lucky Jon says:

Thanx for all o the helpful comments. I was looking to buy the Charmglow, because it looks really spiffy and has the cast grill parts, upgraded side burner, ect… but now I know better. I’m glad I didn’t buy it yesterday before looking around.

March 21, 2007 at 1:48 pm
(34) JJ says:

Geez, folks. I just came back from HD after looking at grills. I have had my eye on a Weber, but then saw a SS Charmglow for about $150 cheaper. It looked great–4 burners. I finally decided I better research first before I plunked down the cash–glad I did now after reading all these comments.

March 28, 2007 at 8:25 am
(35) Steve says:

Wow. I was on my way to HD to get one of these today. Glad I took the time to research this grill before I bought one! Time to start looking again…

I have a charmglow 720-0036-HD-05 that was purchased 2 years ago. I recently noticed the hose melted and I sent an email about getting replacement kit. Hopefully I will get a response bask soon, other than this I cook 3-4 times a week on it and have not had any other problems.

We are thinking of buying the Charmglow model #818-7402-s at Home depot. Has anyone had experience with this new double hood? It appears to be new on the market. 4/15/07

(40) Jae says:

I am looking at Model 810-7500-S. It seems like a well built grill. The black heavy lid seems more durable than the stainless steel. Anyone own this model with information on?

April 19, 2007 at 12:20 am
(41) ED says:

Is the Charmglow 720-0304 as big as a problem as the modle 720-0036. I have only had this until Chrismas and it seemed to burn out like the 720-0036. Any one have any ideas?

April 22, 2007 at 10:55 am
(42) Win says:

We were all set to get the Charmglow at HD – it looks so darn nice. Even though it’s a great price I decided to see if I could get it online cheaper and came across this site. After reading the comments, it’s a Weber for us – forget about price – I want something that’s going to work and last and be safe! Thank you all for the information.

HELP!!! My husband and I just bought a charbroil at Lowes. We just happened to be in Home Depot and came across the charmglow 810-7500-5 model. Looks great with all the features we wanted, at the same price we paid for the CB. We haven’t used it yet and are contemplating taking it back and getting the charmglow. Can anyone help me with a review on this model?????

(47) Sal says:

We bought our Charmglow at HD around Christmas and just used it for the first time last evening. Everything worked okay, but the grilling rack and burner covers inside are black and bronze and badly tarnished. Anyone know how to clean it? The instructions say to clean them while they are still hot, but we chose to eat instead. Thank you.

(48) Margie says:

I so need a new gas grill. I looked at HD yesterday and ‘thought’ I was impressed with these grills. Thanks so much for taking the time to post your comments. Am I hearing that the Weber, Ducane are the best buys? What about the CharBroil? I am still looking for a grill. ;)

May 8, 2007 at 11:09 pm
(49) TAI RA says:

I JUST BOUGHT THE CHARMGLOW GRILL AT HD ON 5/7/07. I BOUGHT THE 720-0396 FOR $569.00. I AM NOT TAKING DELIVERY UNTIL THIS SATURDAY. DOES ANYONE THINK I SHOULD CHANGE IT TO THE DUCANE OR WEBER? I’D HATE TO BRING THAT BIG THING HOME AND HAVE TO CART IT ALL THE WAY BACK BECAUSE I THREW CAUTION TO THE WIND AND HOPED IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN TO ME.

PLZ ADVISE TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE

May 10, 2007 at 10:50 am
(50) Margie says:

I opted not to take a chance on the Charmglow after reading the posts…I went to Sears and purchased a Weber. Did you happen to see the show last night it was on one of those ‘Funniest Video’(?) it showed a grill actually catching fire!

May 16, 2007 at 9:32 pm
(51) CHEF JOE says:

I bought the Charmglow 810-7310-S a 3 burner stainless steel at Home Depot abut 3 weeks ago….I LOVE IT!!!!! The knobs work smoothly, the clean up of the grate is so easy. The pull out to clean out the bottom of the grill is great. It sold for $199.00 here in central Illinois, I got it on sale for $179.00 The side burner like the main burners light the first time, every time. On a scale of 1 to 5, I give it a 5.

May 20, 2007 at 6:21 pm
(52) Susan says:

We bought the Charmglow 4 burner stainless steel from Home Depot back in December 2006. The very first time I used the grill, it caught in fire. The next two times did the same thing even though I had it on low heat. The heat was not even either. I returned the product to Home Depot and got a refund. Do nto buy this product– it is JUNK!!!

May 22, 2007 at 2:33 pm
(53) Michael P says:

I bought a charmglow Model 7440 in April 2007. I took it home in the box, not wanting them to assemble it for fear of shoddy workmanship. It took me about 3 hrs to assemble the unit.
I have used it several time since then and had no problems whatsoever.
I do recomend coating the stainless steel parts with a good non wax auto finish or the type that is sold for stainless steel grills. I also bought the cover which is specifically made for it.
After each use I wipe the outside with a damp clean rag.and cover it after it has cooled. So far so good. Im actually pleased with it. For me, its a good deal for the price.

May 26, 2007 at 11:45 am
(54) Sherry Long says:

We purchased a charmglow at Home Depot last year. It worked great for one season. This season, the burners will not heat. It appears as though their is something wrong with the gas line. We have replaced just about every part inside as well as trying three differnt gas tanks. We have tried repeatedly to get assistance from Charmglow, but no one seems to be working in their customer service department. We have tried to get assistance from Home Depot, however, their warranty expires after 90 days. We paid $499.00 for this grill and are sorry we purchased a Charmglow.

May 28, 2007 at 11:40 am
(55) Linda says:

We bought a Charmglow for my son in law 2 years ago. We are visiting them this week and I am embarrassed for how the Charmglow has held up. Today, my husband and I are going out to buy new grates for the grill. The original grates are flaking and rusted.

We have a Weber at home and I believe it’s on it’s 4th or 5th year and everything is still in working condition.

I don’t think a $300 grill (what we paid 2 years ago) should only hold up for 2 years.

Spend the extra and get a Weber. Those grills are wonderful.

I just purchased a Charmglow Model 810-7440-S from Home Depot on yesterday. I thought I would check the internet to see the availability of parts and I stumbled on this information. Has anyone had specific issues with the above referenced model? We used it last evening and it worked fine. It did cook fast, but we didn’t experience problems.

July 23, 2007 at 11:53 am
(63) Tyler says:

I have owned the 720-0289 model that has provided very good service for one year. However, one week after the warranty the gas regulator failed. I called and they honored the warranty and sent a new regulator to me, I paid for the shipping. Two week after installing the new regulator, it failed. I again called and they are sending another regulator at no cost to me. If this one fails, it would be safe to say that they have bad gas regulators and requires and investigation into why they are failing.

(66) John says:

Speaking of the Charmglow 810-7500-S I actually bought one from Home Depot night before last but couldn’t get the box in my car so I left it until I could get help picking it up. In the meantime I checked this website and noticed all the negative comments about the 7500-s and Charmglow in general plus I checked ConsumerReports.org and they gave it a not so good rating.
So I went back yesterday and got a refund and turned around and bought the Blue Ember by Fiesta. This one was the second highest rated gas grill on Consumer reports and was a CR best buy. Home Depot had marked the 7500-s down to $258 from $400 which was very tempting. The Blue Ember was $450 but I think I’ll be much better satisfied with this one. Glad I saw everyone’s comments.

I had this grill for 2 years and the ignitor went year one and afterspending money on a nice cover…The grill had a major fire and meltdown destroying all the knobs forcing me to reach onder the grill to stop the gas.. Very very poor quality parts and the non stainless parts could not be of a lesser quality!

(69) Kurt says:

I bought a Charmglow form HD aprox a year & a half ago. THe burners were shot after a year and it took me over 4 months for grillservices to send me new ones under warranty. Also, the flame tamers, grease tray and grease panel were rusted out. I’m now in the process of trying to get new ones as well. The grill looks good, but the quality sucks!

(70) Amy says:

Boy, I wish we read this article before we bought our junky Charmglow Grill from the HD. I tried to get Charmglow to replace the warranty items and they torally ripped me off. They charged my credit card for excesive shipping AND for the warranty item. Boy was I surprised when I got my statement. I contacted them and they lied about the size of the box and weight of the item as verified by UPS. I am in a dispute with them still and nothing but sorry we ever layed eyes on that grill!!!!

(71) Mark says:

2 years garage kept and all burners on an (all stainless grill) rusted and ruined my rib party, the left side was a solid flame 6 inches high, scraped the burner and it broke in half, inspected the others and all are split and corroded. What junk, it was the most I have ever spent on a grill and my old grill from my shed is grillin as we speak. Replacement burners have to be ordered, at over a hundred bucks! Its junk dont buy one.

(72) Tony says:

Thanks for all the great replies. We were shopping in Home Depot last night and we could not make up our minds about which grill to purchase so we decided to hold off and read some reviews. Looks like we’ll spend the exrat few dollars and purchase a Weber.

(74) J2729 says:

I have model #810-6320-B, and had the same problem with rust down the front of the stainless steel, from the screws.
The manufacturer would not do much about it, but my Home Depot replaced my grill with the same model and delivered it to me, too.
There is a recall form on Nexgrill’s website for model #720-0036 and 720-0025.

Charmglows are made by 2 different manufacturers and Charmglow cannot be contacted directly as one comment said so I wonder about the validity of some of the comments. The only comments with specifics are from people asking questions, or the few giving their model number. May 2008

2 burners have split and cost $30 each to repair. Home depot has no parts in stock but will sell other parts that don’t fit. Now i know why I quit going to home depot. They have no customer servie and do not stand behind theeir products.

Buyer Beware, we bought a Charmglow Stainless Steel Grill in July 2007. It cost almost $500 and had the cast iron burners with the separate griddle/grill plates as well as the stainless wire racks. This unit is a piece of garbage. We probably have not used it 10 times and rust is all over it. It has been kept on a ten foot covered patio out of the weather. Our son-in-law bought a much less expensive unit, has kept it under a tree in all seasons of weather and it has no rust. We have tried for over a month to get a response to warranty even sending pictures. As of June 18, 2008 we have yet no response.

If anyone had been out there when the ignition switch shot out of the unit, they would have been severly hurt. The underneath inside of the grill kept burning for some time until all the handles were burnt. I called charmglow this morning and they say it will be weeks and weeks before I hear from a claims adjuster. What garbage! They have my money, I have a burnt ugly unit on my patio and have no grill. I am one very unhappy customer!

We bought the stainless steel gourmet model with the stones and the stone island. We bought 2 islands…total about #1500.00. It is less than 2 years old, used less than 20 times, stays under roof and is a unsightly bucket of rust. It gets so hot it melted the emamal on the racks. It is JUNK JUNK JUNK. I bought a Charmglow Model 810-7420-S from HD three years. I love it! The only problem I have experienced have been the ignitor going out. But then again, every grill I have ever owned does thisa as well. I really like the dual cooking zones (and hoods) on this model. I can sear on one side of the grill and cook on low on the other without the heat tranfering to the other side. Great Grill!

We bought a charmglow “stainless” grill island with the stone cabinets. We had it under a covered porch, we also bought a cover for the whole island. Two weeks after setting it up on the porch it started to rust. The flame is very hard to regulate and the temprature is either too high or too low. The other day we were grilling some chicken and the whole thing caught on fire. I had to turn off the gas at the tank as the controls on the grill had no effect. DO NOT BUY A CHARMGLOW GRILL.

(87) Amy says:

Do not buy a Charmglow! All 4 burners split and company has burners on back order so you can not even get any replacements anywhere until end of summer!! They all split and we only used it one season and the grill cost $400. I took it back to Home Depot where I purchased it and got store credit since I no longer had the receipt.

(88) David (MNGrillman) says:

Don’t buy any grill that has cast iron burners!!!

in 2000 I bought a Members Mark stainless steel grill from Sam’s
club that had cast iron burners, after three years the burners (3)
had to be replaced (cost $30.00 a piece) to replace them.
One burner broke into two pieces when I lifted it out of the grill to replace it (it had rusted that bad).

I then had to replace the burners in 2006, I started grilling this summer and one of the burners had a small hole rust through on the bottom of the burner and started a grease fire in the bottom of grill fortunately I was able to put the grease fire out before anything serious happened, I replaced the three cast iron burners with cast stainless steel burners from Hallmark (about $200.00) and my grill works great. My advice is by a Weber gas grill it will cost more in the beginning but you’ll save money in the long run.

(90) Bert - Katy, TX says:

My wife bought a Stainless Steel CharmGlow gas grill from the Home Depot here in Katy for Christmas. All three burners cracked and fell into little pieces. The ignitor burned out after 2 months. The grill caught fire twice. I had to make adjustments to the hose every time I replaced the gas tank or the grill would not work. Replacement parts are impossible to find (HD does not sell even burners for this grill). Customer Service for Chinese company that makes this grill has never answered 1-800 number. The grills have been recalled for gas leaks and fires.

DO NOT BUY THIS GRILL!!!

This grill is substandard. The burners which are warrantied for 5 years fell apart totally after 14 months of use. Home Depot carries no replacement parts and Brinkman’s customer service will not answer calls even after being placed on “hold” for one hour, twice.

THE GUTS ARE OF VERY POOR QUALITY. NO PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNIGHTER ALTHOUGH THE RACK STARTED FALLING APARTIN THE FIRST YEAR AND THE DEFLECTOR PLATES HAVE JUST ABOUT HAD IT. IT WAS DEFINATLEY NOT WORTH WHAT WE PAID AND WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR A NEW ONE I’LL STICK WITH THE TRUST WORTHY “CHARMBROIL”

It will be year 2 with my Charmglow grill. I use it minimum 3 days / week all year round and it has been great! It heats up fast, and is able to reach high temps without issue. The only challenge that I have at this time is that I am having difficulty sourcing the heat angles as the original ones are starting to rust through.
For the dollar it has been a great grill.

I’ve had the Charmglow 4 burner unit for several months now and it works like a dream. I followed all of the instructions and oiled the screws and stainless steel and there is no rusting at all. With the humidity in Georgia that is a feet in itself. The heat distribution is great and the entire grill works like a charm! Well worth the money!

I bought a brinkman first and it caught fire and burned out everything in the front. They told me it was a spider that got in my burner and caused a back burn and they would not warrenty that (lasted a year). I then went and got a Charmglow and a little over a year later I am having all the same problems all you are having, regulator not working, burners are cracked and uneven burning, gatings are falling apart they are about 1/2 the size as when I got them. model 810-6320B and this was one of there better models.

I have a Charmglow Gas BBQ Grill Model # 720-0230 and the burners only lasted two years. The paperwork stated that there is a 5 year warranty. I located the number to Nextgrill (800) 913-8999. I spoke with Darrell and he advised that they would be replaced under warranty. There are three burners and they list on other websites anywhere from $18.50 to $30.00 each. All I needed to do was provide proof of purchase and they would send the replacements for only $18.49 S/H. Not too bad.

I will never buy a Charmglow product ever again. My unit had a recall pending when I bought it, I signed up for the recall and they never did anything about it. Several months later I signed up again and eventually they sent me the replacement part. VERY SHODDY quality!!! Unpleasant and unhelpful customer service personnel. Difficult to get a human. Lots of voice mail hell. Generally unwilling to answer the phone or provide assistance.

(98) Mark says:

We bought this grill back in late 2005 and it has been a POS ever since. It immediately showed that what we thought was stainless steel was anything but. It heats unevenly and now that the burners and heat plates are rotted it turns out that for around $230 they can be replaced. That’s well over half what this unit cost. The knobs on it are flimsy, the temperature gauge broke during the first years use. My recommendations? Never buy a grill from Home Depot, and never buy a Charmglow. The cheapy $120 grills last much longer!

Got a three burner stainless steel for Christmas, 2007. The igniter quit working the second week. The track mounted in the back of the grill for the flame to follow and light each burner is burnt out, can’t seem to find a replacment. This grill is a POS for what it cost. Never again will I purchase anything made by or for Charmglow. One would think Home Depot would carry replacment parts for the items they sell. Seems that would only be good business.

(100) Tim says:

Don’t buy it! The unit looks great, yet operates pitifully. I replaced an ugly Sears unit I had for 12 years (I should have kept it, it looked bad but worked all the time!). This Charmglow unit doesn’t work half the time. The flames shoot through the back, sometimes it doesn’t generate enough heat to cook, others it is too hot. The Y split hose is to short to fit the main burner connection and my line kinked, so I removed and switched the side burner line for the main kinked one and taped it to the unit out of the way.

Bottom line … run Will Rogers, run!

We received a Charmglow 810-6320B as a gift from our children about 3 years ago. They purchased it at HD. The igniter went out immediately. We just took the grill apart to see about replacing the burners, as the cast iron is in pieces. After reading all the comments, I think we will toss it. It isn’t worth putting more than a hundred dollars into new burners. Has anyone had any luck with the Costco brand of gas barbecue?

(102) Leroy says:

Bought Charmglow 82-7500S(4-burner porcelain series)in 2006. Casting wheels and heat tents replaced. Replaced small tents with larger porcelain steel heat plates and have had good success and added flavor. Other than that rust experienced on painted doors when using cover due to trapped moisture. Since removing cover no additional rust has occurred. Burners have not been touched, only cleaned. Grates are beginning to show signs of rust. Heats excellent with above average indirect heating control. Back of heating area is hotter than front. Rear Infrared burner burns rotisseries due spit being mounted too close to burner(poor design). Due to this I use outside burners on medium/high and the food is hard to beat! Starts well and is used frequently. I believe more grillers should invest in Weber’s Real Grilling and learn how to grill. It is a lot of fun! I’m thinking of upgrading in grills due to size but not due to performance. At the $300.00 I paid for it it was a relative bargain.

Don’t ever buy a Charmglow. I spent $700 on a Charmglow “stainless steel” grill (by the way, stainless steel is not supposed to rust) at Home Depot in Victoria, BC (yes, Canadian Home Depots are no different when it comes to terrible customer service). Same thing as others, burners rusted out and broke in half within 2 years. Getting the run-around from Home Depot, and have made a couple of attempts to contact Nexgrill Industries. Both these companies have absolutely no idea what real customer service is. They are more than happy to take your money, pocket their profit, then tell you it’s not their problem etc. I have read many different excuses so far. They haven’t heard the last of me yet. I will be taking it to the local media, because this is just outright fraud. Many people ask why Home Depot continues to sell the Charmglow grills…well it’s easy…they really don’t care, except making money and ripping people off.

So my Charmglow almost caught my entire backyard on fire. I had the gas still on (Medium on all burnera) to burn off the remainder from my fish. It looks as if the tube from the ignitor caught fire and then burned the knobs off…the plastic from the knobs were dripping down the grill and onto the propane tank. I ran to the kitchen to get my fire extinguisher and hosed my grill. I bought it 4 years ago at Home Depot…is there anything I can do to get a new grill????

(106) GreekGuy says:

Don’t buy a Charmglow! I recently decided to buy one as an “upgrade” from my usual Broil Mate. I figured the Charmglow looked fancy, had a side burner and came with a rotisserie and since it was much more expensive than the $299 I usually spend, that I would be getting i nicer BBQ that would last longer. It’s been a week and I’ve been unhappy with it since the minute i fired it up. I’m taking this $600 junk metal back to HD tomorrow to get a Broil Mate. My last 2 BBQ’s have been Broil Mate’s and I was very happy with them, both would get plenty hot enough to sear my steaks to perfection. The only problem I had was after 4-5 years the plastic handles would melt off and I would end up having to open my grill cover with a pair of pliers!

(107) Sean says:

If the rest of the reviews haven’t convinced you already… DON’T BUY IT! It is pretty much the cheapest and most worthless purchase I have ever made. The 3- burner version literally can’t even support it’s own weight. The handles broke in a week and the burners suck. You would be better off rubbing two sticks together and cooking over an open flame… at least you won’t run the risk of blowing your whole family up…

(108) Julie says:

We’ve pretty much had the same problems with the burners. They just crumbled after a few years. BUT just information: We were all ticked off because the ignitor stopped working. One day we were complaining about it to a friend and he said, “You know those things have batteries?” NOPE, didn’t know that. Changed the battery–works like a charm.
I don’t even know what to buy next time. I’ve never had a grill that didn’t look like junk after a few uses and the burners are always rusted out! Do any grills not do that?

We had the Charmglow model# 720-0036-HD-05 for 3 years and tonight it started leaking gas and flames were shooting out everywhere and it almost blew up. We were very frightened. So we came in and went online to look up the brand Charmglow that we purchased at Home Depot in Hanover, PA 3 years ago, and saw that there had been a recall. I’m wondering why we weren’t ever notified or seen anything like this before. We could have been killed and we had no idea this grill was so dangerous. I want to know who to contact to get a refund.

Was given a new charmglow 810-6320B as a house warming present. I thought cool I finally have a good BBQ. This thing is the biggest piece of junk. First week igniter went out. Burners only lasted 2 years and they all burnt in half. $100 just to replace the burners, I didnt buy new ones as im not gonna buy new burners all the time. That is why I do not shop at HD. They sell garbage and dont stand by it.

Do not buy this grill — Charmglow Model 720-0234. Mine is just two years old, and already two of the burners are breaking apart. It has never cooked well. Burns too high and hot on the lowest settings. Flares up constantly. It got poor reviews in Consumer Report, but my first two choices were unavailable at the time. I should have waited.

(113) Steve says:

I have had the 5 burner for about a year now – it is the ‘07 with the blue lid and has a nice look to it. Grill gets extremely hot and is great to cook on. There is plenty of space and everyting cooks evenly. If I’m only cooking a few items, the grill gets plenty hot by only using 2-3 burners. The only con is that it is not that easy to move around if you plan on moving it often. If it plans on staying put then this grill has been a winner in my book and a great value.

I received a Charmglow Grill model 810-9410-F as a gift in April 2009.

I’ve had one issue with it so far. The middle grid keep falling in the unit because it seems like the unit has expanded a bit in the middle, which makes the cooking experience quite annoying.

I hate it to death but it cost me nothing so I guess I shouldn’t complain and I’ll just buy a new one next year. I would definitely not spend 100$ on this model as I’d rather spend more on a grill that will last me longer.

BUYER BEWARE… As a well-educated consumer, I typically make informed decisions. Having said that, I made a poor-poor decision when buying Home Depot’s Charmglow Mo. # 810-7500 gas grill. In short, this is a mishap waiting to happen. Within a week, the grill caught on fire twice. Thinking it was operator error, I backed off the gas and all seemed ok until July 4th when the stainless (less being key) steel shelves broke at the seams, the wheel disintegrated, and the far right burners caught on fire like a shuttle booster and flamed out. Nearly the entre grill is rusting despite my best efforts at protecting it. This is simply not a wise purchase and should be avoided at all cost.

AVOID – DO NOT BUY CHARMGLOW – We bought the Charmglow 810-6320B gas grill from HD a couple of years ago for our summer home. It’s been used less than 50 times and stored covered when not in-use. Here’s the problem! The back of the lid sides (that hold it in place when opened) are breaking off in pieces, causing the lid to fall further and further back when opened. It appears to be from the normal heat produced by the grill. I have MUCH older Weber gas grills that are still in great shape. Stay away from this LEMON.

(118) Earl Grim says:

I bought a three burner stainless steel grill two years ago the inside items burnes, heat shields and grated need replaced and the estimated cost will cost as much as I paid for the grill from home depot. I keep the grill covered in the summer months and stored inside in the winter, if I had to buy another grill it won’t be a Charmglow.

They are garbage…. I purchased a charmglow from Hdpo which might I add took 3 different ones till I got one that worked. Once it was working it was good but it has these plastic, crapy cantilevered front wheels that snap off if you try and move it. I got replacement wheels and it did it again…Home Depo won’t switch it because it is over 90 days eventhough it took 3 weeks for them to tell me. Probably made in China and if not North America should be ashamed……
